We aro indebted to Mr. G. V. Swartz, of Spring township, for as fine a lot of Early Rose potatoes as we wish to sje. If any one thinks they can beat them in size or quality, they are welcome to bring them along. This lot was raised from a pound planted year before last, and Mr. Swartz, from that seed, will have over twenty bushels. The Crops. Wheat in this vicinity turns out to be only about half a crop. In hay there has been a' largo yield, while oats and corn look and promise well.' The reports concerning fruits are not very favorable. Apples which bid fair to show an average yield early in tho season, are dropping oif so much, that in some, instances, trees that were full, now have hardly any left on them. A Pastor Elected. A meeting was held last Wednesday evening in tho Presbyteri an Church for the purpose of electing a pastor for that congregation. Quite a large number were present, and by a unanimous vote it was decided to extend a call to Rev. John Edgar. Mr. Edgar has accepted the call and expects to commence his duties on a week from next Sabbath, lie is at present absent on his wedding trip. Camp Meetings. There will also be a meeting held on the camp ground near Shermansdale, com mencing August 5th. ' Quite a Riot occurred at Marysville,on the 4th inst., between a company of colored soldiers from Uarrisburg, and some socie ties, both having pic nics on the Company Grounds, at that place. It is hard to tell who was to blamo in the first instance, but the affair was, to say the least, unfor- tanate. For a time there was a prospect of serious results, as pistols,, bottles, mus kets and bayonets were used to some ex tent, although as far wo luarn, with no fa tal results, although several were badly, in jured. . During tho excitement, tho Gover nor was telegraphed to for troops, but tho trouble was settled without their services. The Star of the Valley says : we learn that a fatal and rather un usual accident befel a young man named William Claudy, whilst fishing, with two other men, at a stone arched bridge, on the Conodoguinit creek near Roxberry, on the 4th inst. They were all under the arch, when at once it began to give way, precipi tating the debris upon all of them covering entirely the deceased. The other two were fortunate enough to escape with some bruises only. The young man was aged about 25. Accident. On Tuesday last, Mrs. Henry L.
