(From the llorald of to-date] SUNDAY, Feb 13.—The important event of the week in fitianciel circle.* was the announcement of the decision of the United St ales Supreme Court on th queetton of contracts made before and falling due after the passage of the Legal Tender net, the, opinion of the majority of the Court declaring-all debts so created to be payable In coin. The effect was, however, less p trceptiblo than might have been anticipated, and after a few days' discussion the 'topic—like all Wall street seri sat ionte—was soon dismissed front general con sideration. The question le one which has lost much of its interest, for the reason that during the eight years of suspension old contracts have been can celed or merged into -new ones which will be settled witliont legal recourse to thedechtion just rendered. 01 course there are numerous minor debts and moneyed contracts which are not obviously adjusted by tier gene ral tenor of the ruling of the court., but these, if liti gated, will only have to go the rounds of lengthy judi cial processes, and meantime the cause of action will have disappeared tu the return of specie payntents. Wall street has become quite bearish In its views of the iiiiineelhileceilu FS(' of the - gold - market. -Wig-It-the opin ion of the Supreme Court was given it was supposed th at than greater demand which wenn l thuS ogles for the pre cious natal wentel intlnence higher prices, but whatever the eventual effect of this decision, gold has been weak :led Iteavy.
