    CITY. BULLETIN.
A BARER BritEET oMot.—COronor Taylor
was summoned to Baker street this morning
to hold an Inquest upon the body of Ann
Kelly who bad died suddenly. The deceased
resided in n one-story frame shanty, in the
rear of N0:619, and the appearance of every
thing was that of the utmost poverty. The
furniture in the. room , comprised a small piece
of old carpet, a dilapidated chair, bed and
table, and a mean-looking specimen of
a stove. The body was lying on the
floor, clad in a flimsy, worn-out
dress. The deceased seemed to be about 85
years of age, and had wasted away until she
actually only weighed 38 pounds! By her side
VOA a small dog, which is said to have been
very much attached to her, and which had to
be driven away by force in order to allow the
Coroner to make an examination. A young
man with a bloated countenance said the old
woman had been in the habit of, giving him
money toget his "morning bitters." This
morning she gave him a ten-cent note, and he
was to return with the change. When he got
back he found her dead. The verdict was :
" , Death from debility." The Coroner was about
to make arrangements for the bitrial of the
body, when it was ascertained that "appear
ances.are deceitful." Mrs. Kelly, instead of
being almiserable, poverty-stricken wretch,
had been somewhat of a miser. She had lived
in the place beyond the memory of " the. oldest
inhabitant," of the locality, and 1k the course
of these long years had become the owner of
considerable property in the. neighborhood.
Her agent made his appearance, and soon
afterwards an undertaker removed the body
for the purpose of giving it decent burial. She
had lived alone, and nobody seemed to know
anything of her history or relatives.
DIDN'T COMMIT SUICIDE.—SOI.IIO of the
morning papers publish a statement about
strange conduct and the mysterious disap
pearance df Captain John Lyon, of the Park
Guard, saying : "It is thought that he drowned
himself. biome of his friends fear this, and
others conjecture that he shot himself." Cap
tain Lyon called at this office this afternoon.
Ho was in excellent health., and remarked
that he has not yet committed suicide nor has •
he any intention of doing so. As an officer of
the Park Guard, Captain Lyon has always
been very popular, and his numerous friends
will be glad to hear that his appearance indil
cates that he is good for many years of active
life yet.
FEMALE ON A SPREE.—Lizzio Gilligan is a
-young woman who resides on Oak street,
'Eleventh Ward. She is fond of her toddy,
and, in consequence, frequently becomes very
troublesome. On Saturday last she got pretty
full of whisky, and went to a tavern on Cal
lowhill street. The proprietor didn't like her
behavior, and turned her out of the- place.
At this she became greatly enraged, and threw
several paving-stones through the windows.
She was arrested yesterday, and after a hear
ing before Alderman Toland was held in $6OO
bail on the charge of malicious mischief.
T.JNPROVOKED ABEIAULT. - William Fink,
Sampson Hart and William Harrison were be
fore Aid. Toland this morning upon the charge
of assault and battery. They got drunk yester
day, and at Crown and Callowhill streets
knocked down, ^ without any provocation
whatever, Mr. John G. Dickel who happened
to be passing along at the time. Policemen
Krupp and Gontner,_ of the Seventh District,
witnessed the assault, pursued and captured
the assailants. The accused were held in $5OO
bail for trial.
GROCERY STORE FIRED.—This morning,
about five o'clock, the grocery store of Abra
batn Kline, at Thirty-ninth and Rockdalestreets,
streets, in the Twenty-fourth Ward, was dis
covered to be on fire. The flames first 'ap
pcared under the counter, and the top of it
was burned off. The loss sustained will amount
to about $lOO. The lire is supposed to have
been the werk of an incendiary, as bundles of
papers were found piled about' the counter.
Fire Marshal Blackburn will investigate the
matter.
INCENDIARISI4.—This morning, about one
o'clock, an attempt was made to tire the chair
factory of Cornelius Ball, at the northeast
corner of Sixth and Oxford streets. A bundle
of rags, saturated with coal oil and set on tire,
was thrown, over the fence and' fell among
some lumber in the yard. The burning ma
terial was discovered by Policemen Haughey
and Devlin, of the Tenth 'District, befOre it
had ignited the lumber, and, the dames were
speedily extinguished.
CHARGED WITH ROBBERY.—Charles John
son was arrested by Policeman Gorman upon
the ebarge.of robbery. It is alleged that about
three months ago he broke into the tstore of
Abraham Levi, No. 514 South street, and
stole therefrom about 5300. He will have a
hearing at the Central Station this afternoon.
DISHONEHT DOMESTIC.-A colored woman
.named Lydia Robinson watt arrested and will
have a bearing at the Central Station this
afternoon, upon the charge of the larceny of
clothing from a house in which she had been
employed as a domestic.
SLIGHT FlRE.—Last evening, about nine
o'clock, a fire occurred in the soap works of
Josiah Shaw, at Brown street wharf. The
flames were extinguished before any serious
damage had been done.
UOURECTION.—The bequest of Mrs. Re
becca Gumbes to the Episcopal Hospital. of
this city was $1.,000; and not 5.31,000, aS was
misprinted in the Bu'LLETix yesterday
afternoon.

TURES.-Dr. W. J. Davis, ex-professor of the

St. Teresa's Fair, at the Assembly Buildings,
is a magnificent set of double harness, which
is being voted for.. Among the contending
