FIRE IN THE TWENTY 'FIFTH WARD.—This
Morning, about half-past two o'clock, a • fire
broke out la a large three-storied frame build
17.;ing, covering about a half acre of ground; on
-• Hart creek, near ,Kensington avenue, in the
Twentplifth• -- Ward; - owned -- - lir - Weldon --&
Hughes, and occupied by them as- a waste
; , bleaching establishment. The Haines first
made their appearance OVer the boiler, and
spread rapidly. ; An alarm Was struck from
- the TaylorHOse' house, which is. about two'
miles _from' • the ' scene of the confia-
Igation, , and Chief Engineer Downey
and a number of fire . companies
reached the 'ground. None of the companies
could get into service, however as there are
.no fire ,plugs in that section of thel city, and
Hartereek was so nearly dried up that no atl
tempt was made to suck water from it.
'• The fire spread'from one apartment to an
,' other, and the entire establishment, including
all the machinery, Wures, stock, &c., was
entirely destroyed.
A frame dwelling house attached to the
d.
Premises, an occupied by Mr. Hughes, one of
the owners,- was also destroyed. The furniture
was saved, although some of it was consider
ably damaged by the hasty' removal.
The total los.s.is estimated at $2:3,000. • The
stock was not insured, but, the building, ti .+:
tures, inachinery,l&c., were insured for $15.-
000; .$5,000 of which is in the Royal .Insu:anc.•
Co., of London. • • -
