Mi. Freeborn offered a resolution to the effect
that the prhicipalS of the Central High . and
Girls' Normal Schools he authorized to admit
into the schools all pupils who. shall becoMe of ,
the necessary age before the opening of the
schools. Adopted.
Mr. Freeborn called attention 'to the 'tact
that in some of the sections the vacation had
comMenced several dayS earlier tban in others,
mid he thought there should be imiformity, both
in: the closing and opening of the' schools. ,He
had learned that German is taught in one or
more of the schools ) by outside teachers, and
,elocution also. lithe School COntrollers have
the poWer over such matters they are supposed
to, have, it is time it was exercised. The mat
ter was referred to the Committed ,on Schools.
.Mr. Hickok offered as an amendment to the
by-laws, that no pupil in any. school under the
jurisdiction of the Board, shall be required to
memorise or give verbatini recitations of the
toXt of the Constitution of the United States;
neither shall it lie .:requirea • of ;Applicants for .
teachers' certificates at the: semi-annual exami

telligence from the scene of operations is that

locomotive was then taken through and came
into collision with another locomotive at the

them Simpson, a conductor on the Erie road,
