'MTN ICAILROAD.--Tho annual report of 'tht
managers of this company has been received —
The receipts for passengers and freight dnrio
the ytar ending Sept. 30, 1868. amounted tu
$622,012- 48, an excess of $23 993 38 over the
previous year. - Prifar the ordinary reeeipta Et'
the company, rifler the payment of all expenses
for operating' the: toad, roatiatenauce of motive
power, Ike-,,two dividends Sof five per cent, each
were declared, leaving a balance of $92,252 18
carried to the credit of contingent account. The
couvertibleloan of the company has been reduced
$53,150 by conversion Into stock, and the debt of
the company is now $62,950.
The new Macktine and Workshops at the north
west corner of Ninth and Green streets have been
completed, and all the machinery required for
constructing and repairing cars placed therein.
The work in those shops is done economically
and satisfactorily. Two station-hoaxes have been
constructed auk are in use. one near Columbia
avenue the other at Nicetown. The roadway
and roiling -stock of the Company aro in good
condition. Three new locomotive engines have
beim purchaar.d, paid for and placed on the road
during the year.
The ri3 Inman Railroad Company, whose road
formerly connected with the Norristown Branch
of this Company, at Conshohocken, had its char
ter revived by an act of the Legislature. Your
Managers deemed essential tor your interests
that the road of that Company should be con
trolled and operated by this Company. Last
winter the Plymouth Railroad Company was re
organized, and the Board of Managers elected is
tntirelv satisfactory to our - Board._ To secure
the lenders of money to, y and the holders of Cer
tificates of Loan, issued by that . Company,
the Legislature authorized It to mortgage
the road, property and franchises of the
corporation. To aid that Company in the re
construction of its road your Board agreed to
advance, from time to time, as the money should
be required, such sums as the engineers of the
two companies should certify as the cost of the
work done. That road will• soon be rebuilt and
iu operation. It Is deemed a very important
connection, securing the trade at and near Con
shohocken, and which will add materially to the
amount of freight to be transported over the
Philadelphia, Germantown and Norristown Rail
pad.
The officers of the Company are :
President—Collin Colitet.
Secretary and Treasurer—A.. E. Dougherty.
General Superintendent—W. 84 Wilson.
General Ticket A elPrit—Col John B. Peddle.
SPANISH EVAAG-LasT/ths.—A meeting in
reference to the evangelization of Spain was held
on Sunday evening in the church corner . .
Nine
teenth and Green streets, under the auspices of
the American Bible Society, American Tract So
ciety and American and Foreiga Christian Union.
Rev. J, N. Torrence opened with reading the
Scripture and prayer.
Bev. Dr. Cunningham followed, urging the
people to take heed of the "signs of the times,"
as seen in the remarkable , opening for the evan
gelization of Spain,'" folio w in a. line of
duty so plainly indicated by Providence.
Bev. C. M. Bigler, D. D., of the Episcopal
Church, was the next speaker. He dwelt with
great force on the history of the first reformation
in Spain, the number and devotedness of its early
Protestants, and the terrible persecutions of the
Inquisition, which almost exterminated every
vestige of truth, and yet a remnant has remained
who have secretly nurtured a church that
is now ready to carry forward the work.
The services and sufferings of Spanish Evan
gelists of the present century were portrayed
with great pathos. He closed by appealing ear
nestly to the Christian public to lose no time in
occupying the field, the uncertainties 9f political
changes being such that the door may be shut at
any moment, or the banished Jesuits, despairing
of acquiring power under the present govern
ment, might, as they have done before, inaugu
rate anarchy, from which they would hope for a
reaction that would again carry them into
p3Wer.
Key. Dr. Hayes, of the Congregational Church,
followed. He reviewed the decline of Spain in
its moral and political aspects, and its present
wants and necessities. The only remedy for its
degradation must be found in the Bible and such
other books as are now ready to be sent for ward
by the above societies. He stated that merchant
from New York, walking in the streets of Madrid,
observed a crowd opposite a store window.
Looking in he saw a large map showing, by dif
ferent shadings of color, the moral and mental
condition of each nation. While some were
almost white and others brown, Spain was rep
resented as almost black. The spectators turned
from the humiliating picture of their country's
degradation with sorrow and amnia.
Many startling facts were presented, and the
eatnestneas of the speakers left a deep impression
on the audience.
Another meeting was announced to be held on
Tuesday evening, Ist of December, in the church
of the Epiphany, Fifteenth and Chestnut streets,
'when Rev. Drs. Newton, Brooks, Willits, Smith,
Ganse and others will speak.
NOONDAY PRAY &It NUSIC LiN G. —The eleventh
annivepary of the Noon-Day Prayer Meeting
was celebrated at noon to-day at the Church of
the Epiphany. Quiten large epngregation,prba
cipally women, was in attendance.
The Rev. Dr. Newton presided, conducting tle
exercises, which consisted of singing, prayer at d
a number of short addresses by various clergy
men and laymen. Among those participating in
the cervices were the Rev. Drs. Johnson. Church,
Atwood, Crowell, Bomberger, Stork, Hendricks
and Kennard.
. .
This Noon-day Prayer Meeting, which was an
ticipated by a few weeks by a similar movement.
in New York, has been continued without inter
imission since its establishment in 1857, during
the last sears of its existence under the auspices
of the Young Men's Christian Association. Dur
ing the first season in which It was held, Jayne's
Hall, on Chestnut street, was daily crowded, and
many very interesting reminiscences of that pe
riod were recalled by the- anniversary exercises
to-day. The meeting is now held at noon, daily,
at the Rooths of the Young Meii's Christian As
sociation.
RAISED.—The barge Barbara A. Beekley,before
mentioned as having been run into and sunk near
South Street wharf, was raised on Saturday eve
ning and towed to Fairmount. Many of the car
boys, of which her cargo consisted, have been
recovered; and the diver is still at work, and
nearly all will be got up to-day. The work of
raising the barge was done by the Schuylkill and
Delaware Wrecking Company, under the Super
intendence of Captain Gallagher ' for the Under
writers, and W. S. Mason, Esq., Superintendent
for the Wrecking Company.
RIDING ScnooL.—Ladies, gentlemen and chit
dren, who desire to obtain instruction in riding, or to
ride merely, for the take of exerciee, cannot possibly
do better than to place themselves in the hands of
Eugene de Kieffer, master of the splendid Riding
School upon Dugan etreez., below Spracej and west of
