FEANIELIN INSTITUTE. - Professor Morton's
second lecture on Light was delivered last even
ing with entire success, to an audience that., not
withstanding the bad weather, was packed to the
exclusion of later arrivals some time befote the
hour of commencement. Decidedly the feature
of the experimental, illustration was the new il
luminated4ountain l a handred water jeta.
„central sheaf of fifty jets rose some twelve or
fourteen feet in the centre, and was surrounded
by a ring of inclined streams of a less height.
These were at first illuminated from two power
- fill but invisible sources with white
light, converting them into jets -of gleam
ing diamonds, and then by the
introdaction of colored light became streams
of rubies, emeralds, sapphires and amethysts.
Several colors Were also caused to appear at once
primitives parts to

goods valued at $4OO were carried off.
NEW ORGAN.—To-morrow evening, the new
organ built by Messrs. Hook & Co., of Boston, for
the Olivet Presbyterian Church, Twenty-second and
Monst.Vernon streets, will be opened. Several well
knoWn organists will perform, and there will be vocal
music op accomplished amateurs. The following is a
description of the instrument:
-.GREAT MAN VALE—Bourdon, 16 feet, wood, 46pipes;
open diapason, 8 feet, metal, 58 pipes; drachma, 8 feet,
metal, 46 pipes •, stopped diapason base, 8 feet, wood,
58 pipes; Melodia, 8 feet, wood, 58 pipes ; octave, 4
f et, metal, 58 pipes; Fifteenth. 2 feet, meta, 68 pipes;
Mixture, 2 ranks, metal, 116 pipes.
SWY.I.I. MANllALE—lieraulophon, 8 feet. metal, 46
pipes; stopped diapason bass, 8 feet, wood. 59 pipes;
stopped diapason treble, S feet, wood, 58 pipes; flute
harmonique, 4 feet, metal, 5S pipes; violtna, 4 feet,
metal, 5S pipes; oboe, S feet metal, 58 pipes; bassoon,
s, feet, metal, 58 pipes; tremulant.
Psnatt.--Sub-bass (bouvion), 16 feet, tone, w00.P•27
pies; ibis, 8 feet, wood, 27 pipes.
clrtena.xteAt. B.t.ttisrmis—Swell to great; great to
pedale ; swell to pedate; bellows signal.
The "Pedalo" has a compass adequate to the per
formance of all music written for the organ, and has
two stops': the "Bourdon 16 feet," of • large scale,
voiced by our new method, giving in place of hard,
"breaking" tones, so often heard from the larger
"stopped" pipes, a fall, deep, pervading bass, which
for usual choir accompaniments is preferable to the
overpowering "Open Diapason 16 feet."
There are two pedals for arranging combinations of
stops for the Great Marinate, thus giving the player
conuol of the registers without moving his hands from
the key-boards.
MODERN PICTURES.—There is now on exhibi
tion at Scott's Art Gallery, 1020 Chestnut street, a
collection of modern pictures by good artists, among
whom are James Hamilton, E. D. Lewis, Edward
Moran, Thomab Birch, Witicamp Bonfield, Jr., Nich
olson, and others. Will be sold without reserve on
Thursday and Friday evenings, 10th and 20th, at 7,,ti
o'clock.

CITY NOTICES.
AtrrustreSEwrna.—Witti the change of apparel
incident to the change of temperature at this season of
the year, there is necesaartly required an in,'
creased amount of sewing in every family. To meet
this a good sewing machire is absolutely . Indispens
ablewhere health, comfort and economy are properly
cons'idered. Every head of a family who has not yet
done so should acid this essential requirement to his
borne. A gentleman remarked - in oar hearing recently
that be regarded a Grover d7.llaker Sewing Maeliine as
necessary to the proper completion of a home as a
good cooking range, or a time-piece. Be was right.
The Grover A: Batter instruments, we may state, are
preferred now universally on account of their wider
range for such work as is required In families, their
capacity for tine ornamental sewing, and their greater
simplicity, being more easily operated than any other
machines, and less liable to get out of order. The de
mand for the new Graver and Baker Machines, at the
wareroems cc the agents in this city, No. 730 Chestnut
street, is unprecedented.

A REVOLUTION
Iu the DRY 000D13 TRADE has been caused by
the Inauguration of the "FAIR VALUE FOR
MONEY" system adopted by the "BEE HIVE."
Old Stocks of dear-bought goods aro reduced
to "ONE-HALF THEIR FORMER PRICES,"
and are still "TOO DEAR BY HALF."
The "BEE-HIVE" does not require to REDUCE
prices—their Stock, ALL NEW—BOUGHT AT
THE BOTTOM OF THE MARKET—and BOLD
AT FAIR PROFlTS—outranks the supposititious
bargains fulsomely promised by "GRIIND
SALES" and "IMPORTANT NOTICES."
The "BErHIVE" is now offering bona fide
bargains in all their departments—no catch-
penny trifles to mislead—but a pure and nn-
equivocal moderation in prices—ln other words,
"FAIR VALUE FOR MONEY" will be boned to
pervade all the stock.
