POLITICAL.- iy the Repub
licans of Camd( 'irat Congres
sional District, 3 dampen the
ardor of the Democrats and make them feel that
the field is lost to thorn. The - nominations of
Hon. John L Blair, for Governor, said of Hon.
William Moore, for Congressman, hate been re
ceived with such unanimity and approval that
despite their efforts to keep up appearances, the
Seymoarites cannot help exhibiting evident indi
cations of their ' cause." Never since party
lines were so cleanly and distinctly drawn in this
state, has there been so much dissatisfaction in
the Democratic ranks. Many boldly assert that
the Convention in New York sold their
party to the Southern traitors, and, in conse
quence, are unwilling to sanction a measure
which they feel to be injurious to the fature ad
vancement and good of the nation. Grant and
Colfax, Blair and Moore, together with the nomi
nees for the State Legislature on the Republican
ticket, are, therefore, gaining strength every day.
There will scarcely be a dissenting member of the
Republican party found in the entire First Con
gressional District, and it Is believed that a larger
majority will be given to the above-named can
didates than was ever given to any previous
ticket. The Presidential nominees present a
tower of strength in themselves, while John I.Blair
and William Moore_ aro eo well known through
out the First District that they will lead their
ticket by several hundred. Taking everything
into coneideration, the canvass is highly promis
ing, and the Republicans are buoyant of spirit.
They are determined to work with an energy
that cannot fail of success, and no labor nor ex
pense will be spared to accomplish the purposes
aimed at. A large number of young men will, be
voters in November, of whom four-fifths will
vote he Republican ticket. Many of these were
in the Union Army, and can, therefore t justly
realize the value of a vote for the Union, the
Constitution, mid the laws made under it.
COOPER'S CARE/G.—The work of rebuilding the
bridge over Cooper's creek, on the eastern boun
dary of Camden, has been commenced. The
structure is to be of iron, the
_heavy castings for
which - are now being made-at the-foundry el the
Messrs. Starr. It will be 102 feet in length, with
two passage ways. It will be supported by three
piers, the middle or main one to be circular,
having a diameter of 30 feet. The footways for
passengers will be outside of the carriage
ways. This will be an improvement which hai
long been needed, for the old bridge has been in a
dilapidated condition for some time past. It is
located very nearly on the same spot where the
bridge stood which the Gloucester county militia
tore up, during the Revolutionary war, to pre
vent the troops of Abercrombie (whose head
quarters were at Cooper's Point), from crossing
to forage the country and drive off the cattle of
the inhabitants. They were fired upon by the
British, and three of them quite seriously
wounded. The Britieh troops lay behind their
letrenchments which ran in a sort of semi-circle
facing the creek, portions of whichare still visible.
num. Tnir.—To-morrow afternoon, at one
o'clock, the new steamboat America will make a
trial trip, and will then be placed regularly upon
the ferry. This steamer is 128 feet in length, 52
feet beam, 8% feet depth of hold, and has an
engine of 32 inch cylinder and 9 feet stroke.
COUNTY BONOS.—The Board of Chosen Free
holders of Camden County have authorized the
issuing of bonds amounting to $25,000. These
bonds bear interestat seven per cent. per annum,
and which is to be payable semi-annually. They
are to run from twenty-one to twenty-two years.
BEPUELICAB MEKTIRG.—A large Republican
meeting will be held at Cooper's Point, on Satur
day evening, which will be addressed by James
.111. Scowl and other good Speakers.

The western World knows that China is a very large

of teachers and traders; and the latter are 'exceedingly
quick to avail theraselvea of every proffered facility for
procuring early information. It is observed in Califor
nia that the Chinese make great use of the telegraph,
though it there transmits Messages in English alone. To
day, great numbers of fleet demons are owned by Chi

transmission of early Intelligence. If the telegraph we
propose, connecting ail their great seaports, were now in
