Water, street are still talked qf,a great deal, and
there is 'about the liadie - diveraity - of opinions ,
respecting the same, and what is,'and what should '
and what shouldn't be, _ Mn Oliver Dyer, the
gentleman who first limned the portrait of the”.
"Wickedest Man" in Zlackard's Mmtigli, has just
had published in , the Tribane a very readable
article on Kit MIMS and his dog-plt: Mr. Dyer

seen in New York," and probably will have a
large - audience.
The watering-place season is now about over,
.so the proper authorities say. The large number
of eur summer absentees, at least, now seem to
to be here. We hear of a few stragglers at Long
Brunch and other places, but they are only the
eccentric few. One grand, good thing results
from this eityward movement, viz.: We have leas
of the ineffably stupid and silly watering-place
journalistic trash. Now, not all the letterapub
lished in the newspapers as from watering-places
are trashy. Nizz and then, a good one appears,
but 'tie, only now and then—the larger part, per
haps, of this correspondence is the' wretchedest
sort of stuff. New York journaispublith their full
share of this "boldly" literature.
The Fall m , ,sting of the Jerome Park promises

It is announced , with commendable gravity
that 800. invitations have been issued - for a
wedding to take place on the 30th inst. It is
also proclaimed far and wide, that the young
lady in town who boasts the largdst display of
diamonds is the daughter of a former street con
tractor, and that these same diamonds are valued
at three hundred thousand dollars. And farther,
that thirty dollars were paid at Delmonico's the
other evening for the dinner of one individual—
it isn't stated, but probably belonging to the
genus homo—and all sorts of speculations are rife
as to the probable make-up of that individual.
Yesterday was the second day's meeting of the

This Com Pen - National in its character, offers,
by reason of its Large Capital, Low Rates of Pre
mium and New Tables, the most desirable means
of insuring life yet presented to the public.
The rates of premium, being largely reduced,
are made as favorable to the Insurers as those of
the best Mutual Companies, and avoid all the
complications and uncertainties of Notes, Divi
dends and the misunderstandings which the latter
are so apt to cause the Policy-Holders.
Several new and attractive 'tableware now"pre
sented, which need only to be understood to
prove acceptable to the public, such as the IN
COME-PRODUCING POLICY and RETURN
PREMIUM POLICY. In the former, the policy
holder not only secures a life insurance, payable
at death, but will receive, if /iving,.after a period
of a few years, an annual income equal to ten per
cent. (10 per cent.) of the par of his policy. In the
latter, the. Company agrees to return to the as
sured the tptal amount of mcmey he has paid in, in
addition to the amount of his policy.
The attention of persons contemplating insur
ing theitlives or increasing the amount of insur
ance they already have called to the special ad
vantages offered by the National Life I n surance
