THE UNION PACIFIC neranoen.—Since the middle of July last, when the editorial excursion party visited the terminus of the Union Pacific .P, ailroad, one hundred miles of track have been laid, making eight hundred miles of road in running order. The enormous business awaiting the completion of this great work may be guessed at from the single item of Government transporta tion required for the military posts in the Indian country. Last year, when the average length of the road was less than 400 miles, the Government transportation amounted to $700,000. The same freight, transported by wagons, would have cost *2,625,000. This disproportion becomes vastly greater as the road advances, so that the Govern ment will undoubtedly be more than repaid for all its expenditures in freight alone, irrespective of the great appreciation in the value of the public lands. During the year ending. June 30, 1868,the earn ings of the road were $4,246,040, and the expen ses, $2,681, 757, making a net earning of $1,561,- 283, and authorizing the Company to make a reduction of twenty-five per cent. on their charges The Union Pacific Railroad is being built with startling rapidity, but the work is being done in the very . , best style, in every particular. The impartiallestimony ofra large party of intelli gent gentlemen who have lately returned from a careful examination of the road, is unanimous upon this Important point. _The Company, with all its anxiety to get through to the Pacific, is working 'upon-the true policy of doing - its work well in the first place, and this fact constttutea one of the strongest arguments to capitalists, in favor of the value of ite securities. The Bonds of the : . Company, the whole issue of which will only be thirty million dollars, eighteen millions of which.have already been ,sold, are payable, principal ,and. interest in gold. This has been made doubly secure by a special covenant executed by' the Company to the Trustees of the First Mortgage Bonds, and at once constitutes the Bonds as a first-class se curity in all respects. In less than a year, trains will be running through to San Francisco, and the trade that will be poured upon the road will be enormouts. If the theory is correct that during the next thirty years, the rate of interest in the United States will decline as it has done in the old countries of Europe, we have a right to ex pect that each six per cent. securities as these will be held at as high a premium as those of this Government, which, in 1857, were bought in at from 20 to 28 per cent, above par. Many attempts have been made by interested parties to depreciate the stability and soundness of this great national enterprise, but they have all failed, simply because of its real intrinsic merit and value. Its securities constitute one of the very best permanent investments offered for capital anywhere, and It cannot be a' very long time before the announcement will be made that its Bonds are all sold. Messrs. Delltiven 'es Brother, the well-known Bankers, are theagentof - the Company in this city, and are now offering the First Mortgage Coupon Bonds, at 102. A large screen was erected on the north balcony of the bttilding, and a succession o: pictures were .thrown upon it from a powerful instrument. Commencing with a re volving wheel of brilliant colors, successive changes presented the legend, "Vermont Bets the Ball in Motion, 27,0 W majority," followed by "Maine Rolls. It Oa f '23,000 majority." This gave place to ' a superb American Eagle, .widelr, in turn, dissolved into a colossal' portrait of General Grant, which was greeted with'a tempest of cheers from the delighted crovid: The Martyr President Lincblu - and many of our distingrdshed military, and naval heroes were also shown, together with several line pieces ofstatuary. A strilcinge/fect was also produced by the illumination of the beautiful Aeg at the mast-head of the League House, by means of a Drummond light. The exhibition was a great success in point of good taste, arillianey, and completertess, and intrcduced a most tittraa, tive addition to the machinery of our political gatherings..
