7' he Fine Arts in Oil Cloths.
Our city has long been noted for her superior
manufacture of oil cloths, and the perfection of
the art seems to have been attained by our enter
prising townsman, George R. Brown, Esq. (for
merly of the firm et Brown & Price), whose cele
brated and extensive "Anchor" Works for their
manufacture is located at Ann and Edgemont
streets, in this city—his office and salesrooms
being at No. 40 South Fourth street. An admi
rable display of the samples of these olegatat oil
clothe is•now being made in the large east win
dow of Messrs. Williams & Woodward's estab
lishment, No. 922 Chestnut street, of which a
morning contemporary says:
"We hare 71e7T2' seen these specimens equaled
in oil cloths of either Amtrican or European 711(177H
fitcture."
The imitations of oak, rosewood, marble,
bronze and mahogany, and the tasteful patterns
for stairs and carriage purposes, no less than the
lull line of enamelled goods embraced in the col
lection, prove that Philadelphia has attained the
highest pinnacle of perfection in the production
of durable, artistic, and elegant oil cloths. We
advise all of our readers to see them.
NEW JERSEY MATTERS.

in South Ward, Camden, have petitioned the

measure, it is thought, will tend materially to in
crease be many improvements contemplated
there.
OPFNING STRERTS.—RaIpIt Lee, George W.

licitor, who will sell the properties, according to
law, against which they am assessed.
Sri E FOR A BALL.---It IS ROW a well settled
matter that Camden is to have a new City Hall.
The building committee have been instructed to
examine and decide upon the eligibility of a loca
tion, and also to ascertain the price for which a

early date.

the authorities of Cumberland county, on a
charge of having stolen a pair of mules from a
