Masons of this city have purchased a lot, ono hundred and fifty by two hundred- and-fifty feet,. at the corner of. Broad and Filbert streeta s on which they intend to erect a now Masonic Hall. The contract for erection has been given to Mr. J. IL Windrin ' and he guarantees to lay the corner-stone next St. John's Day, and finish the edifice five years hence, at a cost of three-fourths of a million of dollars. The present building on Chestnnt street, has beendeemed unfit for its purpose, although it was dedicated in 1855. The new hall will be of granite, and in the Norman style, the massive character of this order of architecture, however, being, well relieved bs' the ariangement of the buttresses, balconies, balustrades and graeeful pinnacles, which form part of the design. The four sides of the build ing.will be of granite, the only difference in the design being' in the front on Broad street, which will present one of the most Magnificent tCas torts of this thoroughfare. The building will he three stories in, height. The front 'op Broad street will pre sent two towers, one at each corner, the interven ing space being composed of a hanctSoMe 'por tico, running to the second story, and above which will be two niches for statues (ono of Si lence), the whole surmounted at the apex 'of the roof with a small tower, 'at the summit of which will be a statue of Charity. On the face of this main front, in addition to the ornamental win dows, will be (in relief) emblems of the order— Me square and co ass, ,S:c. The tower at he southwest corner of the building w ill be t e great feature. It will be three hundred feet from the ground to the top of of the s pire, or one !Mildred and four feet higher than Christ Chureh steeple. The four corners of this tower will he surmounted by pinnacles, while' the but trestms extending up :1 considera ble distance, the balconies at' the window:3, and the balustrades, and general ornamsnta- Pon of this portion 6f the Stracture will add greatly to the beauty of the Whole de sign. The tower, althoug,lt seemingly Con nected with the main building, will be con- I btrueleti separate, in' order to insure greater se curity-. A solid foundation, of Moen Pset, will toil) the base upon uhleh it will*rest. Tlio tower at. the nortliilest corner Of th front will he much less in height, but will en tale in its ornans illation the same general features. The ' L. remaining three sides of the building will be re lieved by buttresses between the windows, and the whole elite' of the exterior will be at outs; massive and graceful. The portico at the front, Is.ing twenty feet in 'advance of the line of the imildiMs, wastill further add to the beauty of the design: tin the first floor, raised eight feet from the ground, a hall twenty feet in width 101 run the entire length of the building front east to west, and from this will start two stairways, which it is asserted will exceed in Magnificence anything of the kind in the United States. Under the northwest tower will be the office of the Grand Alastcr, and in the rear of this will be the grand ban quetieg rooms, . with kitchen, store-rooms, pantiles, &c.,. attached. The -banutteting room will be one hundred and five feet byfifty-five feet,' and will be fitted up in a style to correspond with the character cf. the building. On the other side of the hull, and in frost on - .Broad street, will be the offices of the Grand Secretary and Grand Treasurer, and in the rear of these will be the library and counnincerooms. The second story, or principal floor, will contain the Grand ,Ledge Room, three rooms for Blue Lodges, one Grand Chapter Boom, and the retiring rooms required • for the transaction Of the business. The Grand lodge .room will be one hundred and five feet by tift3-three feet six inches, and in the decoration and furnishing of this, anartment the prevailing color will be blue, relieved by gold, and the intention is to uraV tt one of the most magnificent rooms in the wtuid. The rooms for the Blue Lodge will each be : fifty-nine by forty-three feet, und handsomely devi med. The Grand Chapter room will be eighty-4ne by fifty `three feet. Parlors fronting on Broad, street for ' the Gland Lodge and Grand Chapter ioill 'adjoin . • the rooms set apart for 'the meeting of these bodies. The thiru story will contain r ms for the Encampuumis and other purposes, nd all will be fitted ttp in magnificent style. . . The bundles. , throughout will be fireproo ;iron , . girders being used at all the •stories, and other precautions urn being adopted to guard against the destruction of the edifice. Ventilation ...of the most complete kind has beim provided, the steani apparatus to be used forheatlng the build ing being also designed to drive a fan to keep up a entillation of fresh air in all of the ropms. Provision has also been !nada for a bountiful supply of water at every story. The entire building will be devoted. to Masbate purposes, and therefore there will be no residence with the hull as heretofore. The work on the . struc ture will be under.the superintendence of,Messrs. IL M; philhps, Jamas C. Adams, Henry J. White, John U. Gllier, liinobLoudenelager, Dan iel Brittitin, Cliaries H.
