COLONEL FORNEY'S Lierrxus pnom EUROPE,
published during the past summer, have been
collected and revised; and are issued this day in
book form by the popular and enterprising puh
31shing house of T. B.,Peterson & Brothers, No.
:306 Chestnut street. Colonel Forney's observa

greater portion of the Continent. As gathered In
Ibis volonie they 'are both interesting and Instruc
tive, and deserving the attention and perusal of
all who wish to understand the relations existing
between the people of the Old World and their
rulers. His comparisons of the present condition
of affairs in Europe with that of our own coun
try are suggestive and worthy of thoughtful con
eideration by both the private and the public
citizen.

A TERRIBLE DIXRIVATION.—An old lady was
telling her grand children about some trouble In Scot
land, in the course of which the chief of her clan was
beheaded. "It was nae great thing of a head, to, be
sure," said the good lady, "but it was a sad loss to
him." Still it was not such an iraportant loss to the
people at large as - would be the withdrawal from the
coal trade of Mr. W W. Alter, whose splendid 'coal
can be procured at his yard, Ninth street, below
Girard avenue, and at the Branch Office, corner of
