    AMUSEMENTS.
TIM AI:CIL—The drama of innisfallen. after a
long announcement, has been produced at the
Arca Street Theatre. Mr. Falconer, the author,
and Miss Kate Belga°lds filli tho leading parts.
This play was heralded by thewarm and hearty
enconiums of the Boston press, and something a
little superior to the ordinary class of Irish
dramas was looked for. In Some respects, per
haps. ihni.!fallen fulfils this expectation, and is
worthy of the praise bestowed upon it. There
1 B n othing brilliant, or particularly- striking about
it. It does not bear the imprint of' genius. It is
sirnply a pleasant and pretty little representation
of certain phases of modern Irish life, with
an intricate, but natural and ingeniously
contrived plot; a dash of Fenianism; an
agreeable lack of shillaleh flourishing and
zild'lrish absurdities; and with two or three
116ve plots of an extremely interesting character.
Of course there is a high-bred Irish gentleman
who has given his heart to a fair maiden; of
course there le the traditional Irish girl with ' the
lovely face, the warm heart. and the extraordi
nary brogue; of course she is in love with an ex
tremely facetious but heroic and chivalric Irish
lad who has a weakness for cracking skulls and
absorbing whisky; and of course there is an in
triguing villain who is an informer, and who
walks to the footlights and discloses his plans
confidentially . to the audience, making them
tremble for the safety of the true lovers. who in
accordance with the known rule in such eases
triumphantly surmount all obstacles though the
efforts of the aforesaid heroic Hibernia]; of
plebeian extraction, and congratulate each other
an a happy circle as the curtain descends, while
the Beartless villain comes to grief in the back
eround.
But inniklaUen is, withal, a fair play, and much
More deaerving of popularity than those wretched
representations of impossible Irish character and
improbable events, which have made the reputa
tion of more than one successful actor. It might
much better to bAny Sure but we are thankful
that it is no worse.lrish drama is excusa
ble which does not contain that extraordinary
stage Irishrfran with which everybody is familiar,
and which comes to a happy conclusion. The
most commendable thing about the representation
is the beautiful manner in which it is put upon
the stage. The scenery is nearly all new, and
some of the effects are very fine. It would be
pleasant to speak only in words of commendation
of the actors. Mr. Falconer as "Terrence
O'Ryan" is "fair to middling," and that is about
all. The most striking feature of his acting is the
abSence of that "hullabaloo" and rant, which the
'uncouth Fenians of • the stage always seem to
consider necessary to the successful repre
sentation of such plays. His performance was
remarkable for the absence of any particularly
bad features, rather than the presence of any
strikingly' good ones. Ile would succeed very
well as an atlachd of some good stock company.
The same is true to some. extent of Miss Kate
Reignolds's "Katey Maguire." In some scenes
she was excellent, and displayed a tenderness
and pathos which were at once affecting and
natural. In Others she was coarse and vulgar,
and seemed to forget that she was personating a
young and innocent peasant girl, whose
heart is supposed to. be softened by a tender
passion, and whose demonstrations should be
csnixlued by the loss of her mother and brother.
The other performers were as,g;ood as the play
would permit them to be. Miss Price.partieularly,
has a very difficult, unpleasant and thankless
part. that isvery rititch.overdrawn. The attempt
was to depict a fashionable woman, in whom
every emotion is suppressed. and every feeling
of sentiment hardened by the world. The result
is, a vapid and inanimate creature who acts with
out consistency or sense. But the language of
most of the characters is natural and good. The
plot, as we have said, is excellent, and the
scenery beautiful. It is not improbable that hi-
Ta*.tratten will have a successful run, for there is a
large class of intelligent persons who have a de
cided partiality for such dramas. It will be re
peated to-night.
Tim Cuns - rxrr.—Mr. James E. Murdoch will
appear this evening as "Don Felix," in the bril
liant comedy of The howler.
Tux WM:NUL—MISS Charlotte Thompson is
drawing crowded houses at the Walnut. She
will appear to-night as "Camille," in the drama
of that name.
AcADEMY OF 3lrstc.—The Black Crook is still
drawing crowded houses at the Academy. It IA,
if possible, more brilliant and attractive than
when first presented. The mechanical effects
work smoothly and perfectly, and the ballet is
unquestionably as near perfection as it is possible
to bring it. It is said to equal the New York
performance ingeneral excellence and in the
beauty of its scenic effects. This is the last week
but one of its performance.
TILE ANI-ItICAN.-A varied entertainment will
be given at this place of amusement this evening.
songs, dances. farces and Ethiopian delineations
will introduced.
ELEVFaTU Brns:Er OPERA HOUSE.—Messrs.
Carneross & Dixey present a very attractive bill
at their opera house this evening. Carneross.
will sing some of - his — finest hMEdi, and lifter'
and his supporters will indulge in Ethiopian ec
centricities and extravaganzas.
PHILADELPHIA Ormi.t liousE.—This popular
place of amusement offers a brilliant entertain
ment this evening to the lovers of negro min
stri.lsy and comicalities. The company is a good
one. and the programme for each night is replete
with excellent things. The house is crowded
every night.
Tar PLAIN.:- .A.ND ROCKY MoUNTAINS.—Even•
night the Assembly Buildings have been crowded
with brilliant and 'fashionable audiences who have
listened with delight to the lecture of Mr. Ring
wait on the above - subject._ Mr. Ilingwalt illus
trates his text with a series of very handsome
paintings and stereopticon views. drawn from
photographs of the various localities which he
describes.
RISTORL—The great Ristori wilt appear at the
academy of Music on the evening of Monday,
the 21st inst. She will perform in Elizabeth, and
will be supported by a brilliant and talented
company of Italian artists.
Cant, BENTZ will give his second Orchestral
Matinee in Horticultural Hall on Thursday,
beginning precisely at 3 o'clock P. M. The
lovely symphony by Mozart, played last Thurs
day. will repeated by the grand orchestra,
which will also play the overture to William Tell,
a waltz of Strauss, the first finale of Wagner's
Lohenpron • and Meverbeer's Flambeau dance.
Mr. Jean l.onis will sing a song by Lacliner, and
Mr..Adbert Sartori will play a solo on the violin
cello.
BAISEINANN'S COSTIUMF: CONCERTS.—On the
evenings of the 15th and 16th lusts. Mr. Theodore
Babelmann will give two concerts, assisted by a
number ofpopular artists, who will appear in
selections from lavorite operas in costume. The
...concerts will take place at Horticultural Hall,
and they promise to prove very popular and sue
ceasful:
BLITZ.—The mysterious Signor Blitz indulges
in magic and the Black Art every night at As
sembly Buildings.
