Wood & Cary; 725 Chestnut street, yesterday; was an overwhelming success in every respect. We had hoped to have pre sented to our readers a verbal description of the promi nent styles of Bonnets and Hats in the "Opening," btft seen,,illiscervered that the columns of a ,iy new. paper were utterly insufficient for such pr sle4 oject.''Tai afford some idea of the difficulty here encountered, we may mention that in passing through a single room we saw over one hundred beautiful new bonnets, all challenging our admiration, and all of them different, while in elegantly-trimmed Hats for ladles and misses the assortment ;was certainly no less varied and extensive. Under these circumstances. mere general observation is all that we can promise. and under this head wo are glad to notice, first, that all the bonnet indications that we have seen favor the conviction that ladies havereturned to their good taste and sense of formelr times, when things were called by their proper names, and a diamond-shaped or oblong patch of trimmed pasteboard was not recognized as a bonnet. Although still swan, the Prevailingnizes this season are more bonnet-shaped, and sufficiently extensive to admit of an iusidefare trimming, which for several past sea eons has been impossible. We therefore say to the - execrable littlejanehon, which is passing away, fare , well. with an unaffected desire that it may never be re rived. The return offeice trimmings we regard not orly as a gratifying iniprovement in the Bonnet, but a moral, not to say sanitary reform. Instead of re sorting to the complexion-ruining devices for beauti • lying effects, ladies of good taste and judgment Will again avail themselves of the contrast afforded by be cunring shade' in inside trimmings for such artistic results. With this change in shape comes another blissful necessity. The ladies will have to bring down their Olympus of hair ou the crown. What an improve ment that will be! In times gone by a lady of taste could SO arrange her side-face ornaments as to hide a multitude of facial shortcomings, and the new idea again opens to her the same field with advantages in the crest-like, or diadem-formed front at the top, which no former Style of bonnet has afforded. In colors the prevailing shade will be Bismarck—a beautiful golden brown, which we train may wear its laurels long, as ft is very beautiful. Although many other hues will be In popular favor, as searlet,,nrauge, .purple, blue, in various shades, and grays and drabs in endless 'variety. , We observe that in Trimmings there is a great lati tude. The new lace strings, in various colors, are a pretty:feature. Some of these are delicately sprinkled with white beads, giving a •dew-drop effect, though jets and pearls ale also used for this purpose. Feath ers are used in great profusion—ostrich, maribeau, willow, pheasant, the *nutlet ibis, the delicate white heron, and other varieties. In some cases the feathers arc tipped with beads, jet, gilt, etc., which certainly adds to their luxuriance as a trimming. For the face, beautiful shades of orange and canary arc much in 'vogne,'und for general trimming, satins, satin ribbons, and satin ribbor prominence. =if bonnets in the ' done for I• hilaf Our judgment, Queen, thin queens of Arm ple to make a' applie. , , to the first-Class mill The display sive than in being also ex— of imported Fel.
