    criir BULLETIN.
TOE limoronn Snot= Masao:v.—The following
ii a literal transcript from the diary of Rev. S.
D. Lona, the efficient Bedford Street Missionary.
We giveit - Without any embellishment:
Sagoth, A yrst.2sol.—Crowds along the street.
Numbers drunk. stretched on the pavement.
Whisky abundant. Sunday law inoperative.
Backdoors kept open. Here are two men fighting,
and a woman in the middle trying to part them.
Crash, and down goes one man on the pavement.
Police out of the way. The mob enjoy it. Here
Comes a poor woman. She wants me to baptize a
dying child.. Igo up, a dirty alley, up a dirty
pair of stairs, into a dirty room, and find a poor
emaciated 'child gasping for breath.. I baptize
the little one in the name of the Holy Trinity
timidst the howls .of profanity ascending from
without. Coming down, I saw a young woman.
asked,..„':Do you live here?" "Yes, sir," "Are
'you imarried? ' "No, sir, I have a man."' •'Wo
man,": said /I, "why don't you get married?"
"Don t_want to, sir." "Don't you. know that it
is wrong to live this way?" No answer and
blank astonishment.
Sabbath-school In the afternoon. Preaching
at night. A man in the church approaches me,
and 'says: "Mr. Long, I am hungry: give me five ,
cents to get a loaf of bread." "Can't trust' you,
my friend. You will spend it for whisky. I will
get you something to eat." This poor fellow had
fought for his country, but rum had done him
moreinjury than the rebel foe. When will the
good citizens of Philadelphia build a House of
Correction for the poor drunkards, the vagrants
and poor fallen girls who have no home but the
street. the cellar and the Ptotion-house?

.L:veuing 13uiletiri—SLR: Our attention has recently
lieen called to an article in your issue of zilat ult.,
copied from the Memphis Post, giving an acebunt
of the shooting of a fellow named W. R. Tullidge,
late of the Board of Registration, of this (Yallo
busha) county.
The account is grossly false in most of its parti
culars: but especially is it a deliberate and malig-
Mut lie as regtirds the charges that the shooting
wait instigated by us, and inc dirty and slander
ous charge of pedury.
For our persuaas and official character we beg
leave to refer to the inclosed letter from (.4eneral
Kautz, U. B. A.,commanding at this. point. As
to the thoroughness and impartiality of the
registration, we refer to the record on file in the
.Aajutant-General's office at t DePartinent Head
quarters. at Vicksburg, arid also to the testuuo-
Bials of citizens, white and colored, from every
Tart of the country.
We ask of you to do us the justice to correct
the statement, and call on the papers generally to
contradict it.

absolntely indispensable to every dwelling-house iii
