There seems to be a settled purpose on t.li
part of thousands of our people to drlveaway
capital Which might otherwise are, invested
here. What encouragement for Northern m
Western men to Settle among us, when so
many ridicule and malign their character:
They : sneeringly call them . ."Yankees," Radi
cals who come to finish the ruin of their uns
holy war. They arc styled miserable political
"adventurers,"- and: the -worst 'passions are
Stirred up, against them. The finger of scorn
-is pointed at - them, as they pass quietly about
their businesS. Even their colored einployCi4
on PlantatiOnS, in Some instances, are' tam
pered with, and persuaded that these, "Yan
kees" want, -their labor for "chips and whet
stones." The old Adam of rebellion and hate
is not yet subdued in too many of our people.
We want capital and men of energy and en
tevprise to aid us in recuperatingi the South.
Which never needed it more. Then away
with.your insane prejudice and malignfly,
and with open arms and hearts invite and en
courage emigration from everywhere. For
God's sake, and your own sakes, do nothing .
lo'driie it away.—Mohtgrerv(iliabonoo

CAPE MAX.
Since the close of 1866 much enterpriee has been dio
-played-at-thir-culebrated--seaehore--resort. - New - and
magnificent cottages have been erected; the Hotels have
been remodeled; a fine park, with a well made one-mile
drive, has been inaugurated; and in all the essentials of a
popular summer resort, a spirit of Improvement is largely
manifested.
The geographical position of Cape Island is in itself
a popular feature, when properly understood: Situated
at the extreme southern portion of the State, and occu
pying a neck of land at the confluence of the Delaware
Bay with the Atlantic. Ocean, it becomes entirely sur
rounded by salt water, hence favored by continual
breezim from the sea.*
The bluff furnishes a beautiful view of the Ocean, Dale
ware Bay, and, picturesque back country, taking in klape
lienlopen distinctly nth distance of sixteen miles. The
beach id acknowledged to surpass any other point upon the
Atlantic coast, being of a smooth, compact Eland which de
clines so gently to the surf that even a child.can bathe
with, security.
Added to these attractions is the fact that the effect of
the Gulf Stream upon tbie point renders the water com
paratively warm-La point - not to be overlooked by persons
seeking health from ocean bathing.
The distance from Philadelphia to Cape Island is 81
miles by rail, and about the eame' distance by steamer
down the Bay, and by either route the facilities for travel
promise to be of the most satisfactory character.: The
Island has Hotel and Boarding-house accommodations for
-about ten thousand persons. The leading Hotels are Con
gress-hall, with J. V. Cake as proprietor; Columbia House,
with George .8. Bolton us proprietor, and United States,
with West & Miller as proprietors, all under the manage.
