New Bailpoad Depot.—The new Depot
of the West Chester and Philadelphia Ballroad, at;the
corner of Thirty-first and Chestnut streets, Is being
noshed rapidly forward It is being built or brick,
. ind when fully completed, will make a very hand
some do bile Improvement, and qolte creditable to the
comDiTny. The size of the Depot will be 881 feet long
bv eofeet wide. A portion ol what will constitute the
denou has. been occupied by the company as a shop'.
Tim new building Is 285 feet. The old shop part la 22
by 96 fret, which is to be arranged for the ticket office
and waiting rooms. It Is the intention of the company
at some future time, to remove this portion or the
building, and erect an ornamental front that will cor
respond with the rest of the depot. The size of the
ladles’ waiting room will be 15 by 35 feet, and the ball
and w altlDg room for gentlemen. 15 by 98 feet Size of
baggage room, 15 by 24 feet. The new portion of the
depotu covered with a truss roof, with 9 feet rise, and
is lighted with 63 windows, twelve feet high and four
feetwlde. Three trains rnn into the depot; one run
ning the entlie length of the same, and two lie lest,
each having platforms 14 leet wide.
Holiday Goods, —The sale of Holiday
Goods, Bronzes, Clocks, <6c„ was commenced this
morning at Scott’s Ai t Gallery 1020 Chestnut street, to
an Immense antlence. The prices obtained were
tolerably lair. We understand the sale will be con
tinued this ev-nlng at 7X o’clock, when a fine lot of
goods will be offered. By the way we should mention
they are all from thewell known firm of Messrs. Bai
ley * Co., 819 Chestnut street.
False Pretences.—This morning, be
fore AkUnnan Jones, Joseph Cannon was charged
"With obtaining money under false pretences Witaoufc
authority he has heen collecting bills in the name of a
man who sells game on Market street, near Eleventh,
offering to deenct a certain percentage for prompt
payment. Jn this manner, it is said, he managed to
collect quite a large som. He was held in $B9B ball for
a further hearing.
Aiding A Pbisonbb to Escape.—James
C. Whalley was before Aldr Hurley. this morning;
charged with aiding a prisoner to escape. Officer
Keener arjeeteda person for vagrancy. ’Hewaj sur
rounded by a crowd and was dragged Into WnaUey’s
place, near , Eighth and Bacsom Btreets There the
prisoner was taken away from him.. Whalley was
held In (600 bail to answer at court.
Cakelessness.—Lieut. Connelly re
ported to the May or this morning several stares;'sta
hies and dwellings In bis district which were found
open during last night. One snoe store on Locnst
street was found with the door standing open and
could readily have been robbed.
Lieut. Bowers, oftheSlith Ward also reported eeve
nd stores found open by his officers.
Seating.—We call attention to the adver
tisement of the West Philadelphia Skating Park,
Thirty-first and Walxnt streets. This Is one of the
most easl>y accessible and most admirably appointed
Parks in the city. The Ice is said to be la splendid
condition.
Receiving Stolen Money.—Randolph
Grier was arrested yesterday,’ at Eleventh street and
Girard avenue, upon the Charge of having received,
with a guilty knowledge, (250 In stolen money. He was
taken to the Central station, ana was locked up to
await a hearing.
Skating.—The. Almshouse meadows, in
the. Twenty-seventh Ward, were frozen over during
last night, and this morning many persons were en
joying themselves by skating on the ice. The different
skating parks about the city will no dqnbt be in good
condition for use In a day or two.
Larceny of a Coat.—Michael Leary and
Albert Alexander were arrested yesterday and taken
before Alderman Jones, Upon the charge of the larceny
of a coat, while the owner was engaged in playing
bagatelle at a lager beer saloon at Eleventh, ana
Cherry streets. They were held to haQ for trial.
Accident.—The Continental Hotel coaoh,
’while going to the Pennaylvan'a Ballroad depot,
broke down at Eleventh and Market Btreets, about
eleven o’clock this morning. Mr. A. J. Holt, one of
thepasßengers, was seriously ißjured,

ing an owner at the Fifth District Police Station.

Hobace Greeley’s Opinion.—A citizen
of Mississippi addressed a letter to Mr. Greeley .asking
him, as one of the leaders of the Republican party,
what,the intentions of that party were toward the
Bonth. Mr. Greeley replied - that one thing the party
was In favor of was that the Booth should be clothed
and In Its right mind. As one of the first steps tow
ards that object, they shonld send their orders for
