Congressional Committee to investigate the> New Orleans riots, ‘ j Important from Mexico. New Obleans, ..Deo; 12.—The New Or leans papers contain to-day additional Mexi can news, furnished by Col. John G. Fisher. Gen. Castelnan arrived at Vera Croz, just as Gen. Donaly, with his troops, (in the lat ter part oi October), was about embarking. The troops immediately returned to the city of Mexico, and left for Oaxaca on the 26th of November, recapturing that place from Diaz, who had taken from the Austrian troops about 3,500 men in brigades, on the march to Oaxaca. Maximilian has about 2,000 Belgians, 15,000 Austrians, 30,000 Mexicanlrnperial ists, and 25,000 French troops, armed, cloth ed, fed and paid (including officers;, fifteen days in advance. , On the 3d of December, Maximilian is sued a proclamation declaring his intention to remain in Mexico. A great inducement for Maximilian to re main -was the arrival of Miraffion and Mar quez from Europe. They pledged them selves to a war with Meiia against the Lib erals, ‘ Marquez’s headquarters were at Puebla, and Miramon’s at, Gnanapnata. Mejia was at San Luis Potosi, where he now is. General Yidaurri has been appointed Special Commissary of the Department of Monterey., - The States in Mexico are no longer known as such, the imperial rule having converted i them into Departments, several States to i compose a Department. The statement that General Sherman has denied admission inVera Cruz is untrue. 1 It was supposed that he wished to hold a j conference with-Castelnau, and orders were | given tq the Prefect to put an extra train at his disposal, and afterwards a guard coach frpmthe railroad terminus, with a hundred French r soldiers, and thus conduct him to the city of Mexico. The Susquehanna anchored 'about six jnileS;from Yera Cruz, but did not go into the harbor. ■ - ! Instead, of the, troops going awav, there Was’good reason, fi>r believing that more are on the way. The prospects of Maximil ian were improving. / , Interesting from St.Xonls. ’’ " £By the U' S.
