Teneriffe for Nassau, totally wrecked at Andross Island—all hands. were saved; the British barque:Tickle, Friend master, from New York tor Havana, with a general car go, totally wracked at Eleuthera on the 30th of September--idl hands saved. The British brig Active, Willingate mas ter, from St. John for iiiatatizi,, WILLI a cargo of limber, has arrived at dassau in distress. She lost her topmasts and part of the, deck load lost. The U. S. Steamer •Talioma, Gibson commander, from Pensa cola, in distress. She coaled, and proceede on her voyage. The American brig John Hastings, of New York, was seen on the sth, abandoned, in latitude —. Foremast gone, mainmast-head gone, the sails is ribbons, and the boats on deck bottom up wards. The American schooner Lathrick, of New York, 13ahoff master, broke from her an chorage at Nassau, in the East Harbor; and was blown out to sea, September 30th ar adved here on the Bth, with the loss of an chors, chains and main hatch. The Ameri can bark john Curtis, of Brunswick,Maine, has arrived in the harbor. She was from Havana lxrund for - Turks - Island. She lost her masts, ritdder head;and sustained other material 'dameges. Five . bedies were picked up, nearly naked. The American-brig—Hydra, of Eastport, Me., J. B. Nichols, rnasteroVas brought here by wreckers on the 14tif inst. She was from Wilmington, N.C. I for Havana,with a cargo of lumber, :Her .masts were gone, and she was otlitirwlite injured. The American brig John N. Cashing, of Newburyport, W.ly. - Swop, master, from Boston to New Orleans, with a geneial cargo, arrived here on the 9th instant, with mainmast gone and foretop and mainmast head wrung off and other damages. Chas. M. Groit, second mate, was washed over board on the 3d inst. The British bark Sapiel, of London, alb bons master, from Pensacola for Liverpool was wrecked by being run ashore, leaking badly, on the 24 inst., at Turtle Rocks. The crew were saved. • The American brig Rival, of- New York, J.'R. Monish, Master, was totally wrecked at Moore Island and abandoned. She was from New York, bound to Galveston with general cargo, partly saved and brought to Nassau. She was wrecked on the 2d inst. The crew and officers were saved. The crew consisted of T. R. Monish, Master; W. W. Delane and. Roderick Dhu, mates, and Alfred Polk, George T. Warren alias Mason, Joseph Allen, Dennis Carna and Neils-m, Seamen. They have all arrived here. The American bark L. Willis Rich, of Stockton, Me., J. D . . Pauno, master, from Roston to MatanzEis, with ice and a general cargo, was totally wrecked'on Gordo Abaco on ;he 2d inst. Part of her cargo, with the officers and crew, were brought to Nassau. The following are her officers and crew:— John L. Panno and David Berry, mates, and Charles Menter, steward and cook; Margaret Menter, stewardess;Jos, Peterson, Jos. Staples, Henry,',Garish, Henry Myers, Wm. A. Ary, John King and Jas. Bennett, seamen. Also, the American brig William Henry, William Barnard master, from Portland for Havana, with lumber and snooks ' totally wrecked on the morning of the 2nd inst., at New Gordo Abaco, after striking. Three of the crew were washed overboard and drowned,viz:—William Baker and William Jones, of Buffalo, N. Y., and James Brown. of Brooklyn, N. Y. The other officers and remainder of the crew were brought to Nassau, with a small portion of her effects. The names of the officers and crew arriving here are as follows :—William Barnard, master; Theodore R. Ray and Chas. Bishop, mates, and Peter Derlem and Charles John son, seamen. British brig Grace Worthington, Dessant, master, from New York to Belize, Hondu ras, was towed to Nassau by wreckers,'O3- tober 12th, partially dismasted, with loss or rudder. American brig John R. Plater, of Nor wich, Conn.; James W. Yates, master, from New York for Havana, with general cargo, totally wrecked at Eleuthera, on the Ist instant. 'Portion of her cargo, with officers and crew, saved and brought to Nassau. Officers and crew as follows:—James W. Yates, master; Albert R. Douglas and Mi chael J. Nicholson, mates; John S. Bradley, R. M. Fowler, Charles McPherson, Henry White and Patrick Moore, seamen. Old American brig Baltic, John Maddock, master, of New York; from New York to Galveston, with general cargo, struck on Eleuthera and totally wrecked, on the Ist instant. Small part of cargo, with officers and crew, brought to Nassau. Her officers and crew are as follows : John Maddock, master; Francis R Maddock and Robert C. Wooster, mates: Gilbert Sinclair, William Boyd, John Morrison, Manfred A. Dyerand John S. Ferris, seamen. The schooner Swan, G. W. Mitchell, mas ter, of Baltimore, was wrecked at Fortuna Island. Her officers and crew arrived at Nassau on the 14th of October. She was wrecked on the. 30th of September, Her 'officers and crew were as follows : George W. Mitchell, master; John D. Boyer, mate; James H. Perry, George Johnson, George Vithal and John Crown, seamen. British Brig Chile, Whitehead, master, from Nassau for Havana, with coal, totally wrecked at Andros Island on the Ist of Oc tober. American Eagle, of Boston, bottom up at Cat Island, San Salvador. Many dead bodies picked up on shore. She was loaded with brandy and wines, and being brought here as derelict. It is reported that 100 dead bodies have already floated on shore, which would indicate she was from some Earop ean port, and had emigrant passengers on board. The owners of her cargo, if Ameri can interest, should at once pat in their claims of the proceeds of the cargo, subject to salvage and expenses of the court here. American lbrig Joseph Baker was con demned and, totally lost at Matthewtown, Inagua. American brig Julia Bartlett, of Bangor, Me., from Nevassa for Philadelphia, totally lost near Lantern Head, Inagua. Crew saved, with exception of two men, who were drowned. Materials sold at luaqua. British schooner Laura, of Annapolis, U. S. BiSmark, master, dismasted, at Harbor Island. American brig J. P. Elliott, of Boston, Jonathan Bray, master, from Bangor to Port an Prince, with lumber, being dis masted, drifted on reef at Harbor Island on the 16th inst., and is a total wreck. Her officers and crew arrived at Nassau, and are as follows: Jonathan Bray, master; Harvey Watson and -William Welch, mates; and Charles M. Tripp, John Franks, Jas. Donald and Patrick Farley, seamen. A French barque, towedinto Mayaguana, temporarily rigged, and carried to Matthew town, luaqua, loaded with logwood. A three-masted schooner, reported as wrecked at Grand Bahama. Cargo being taken into Green Turtle Bay, Abaco. A large centre-board schooner, total wreck on Crossing Rock, Abaco. All hands drowned. No name or nationality. Part of chronometer box, marked P. L. Dembrev Grey, -New York, was picked up near -the wreck, which may lead to her identity, Sh.. wee loaded - with cocoa nuts, which were pitched. A 'large vessel," name 'ascertained to he Raven her port and nation unknnwe, loaded with lumber,lcottom up, at Berry Islend. All drowned._ Schooner Advanoe,formerlylof Baltimore, transferred to the Baltimore and Bahama Guano Company, was totally lost with her entire crew. Teti of her.original crew, on board at tilt time of the disaster, are sup posed to belong to Baltimore. The American schooner Union, of Har rington, reported in my last as having been driven ashore, will probably be afloat in a few (lova, as well as the British war ship Nimble. .. - This comprises all that has been ascer tained up to this date. Bat I fear there are, many not yet known. The crews now here will be forwarded to the United States at once. Arrest of itPbiladelphia Clerk Charged with Robbery. Chief of Police Hague, on Saturday morning, received a despatch from Acting Chief Buckley, of Philadelphia, requesting him to arrest a, young man nathed. Harry Lewis, who wibuld =Die on the noon ex press train. - The despatch also gave a description of him and _stated - that be had stolen five Itindred And twenty-five dollars from lit,employers, and was accompanied by a yo'ung , lady. On the arrival or the train the young hian eras sooni recognized by the officer and 'taken into custody. At first he denied his identity, but afterwards admitted that his name was Lewis. In his pockets but-twenty dollars were found, together:with a bank book of 'hie / em ployers. Lewis was 'compelled to take off his outer giirments.and further search was made, which resulted , in the finding of three hundred and ten dollars fastened. upon his shirt. .The young lady accompanying him is rather. prepossessing, and claims to be his wit, which the prisoner acknowledges. She stopped at one of the principal hotels, and visited Lewis at the lock-up, appearing to be greatly distressed. After the prisoner was isecureCOfficer Hague telegraphed to Philadelphia the fact, when another despatch - was received in foriniig him that an officer would come here for Lewiso immediately. Lewis is about nineteen yew of age: Officer Levy, of Philadelphia, arrived yesterday on the express tram, and will take the prisoner back on the early express this morning. Lewis, it apPears, was for Some time in the employ of W. B.Sellers ez: Co.,Tobacconists, No. 339 N. Third street, Philadelphia. The head of the firm is his brother-in-law. Lat terly Lewis's accounts were found to be short and he cleared out, taking with him the amount as stated. Officer Levy says the young lady with him is not his wife, but a "fast" woman, who has been living at the corner of Crown and Vine streets, in Philadelphia.—Pittsburgh Dispatcli. 12th. Treasury Circular. The Secretary of the Treasury has issued a circular amending the following para graph contained in the Treasury Depart ment Circular of May 27th," 1857, to the Treasurer and Assistant Treasurers of the United States and Depositaries of Public Moneys : "whenever. any disbursing officer or disbursing agent shall die, reign, be sus pended, or removed, you will at once stop further payment of his drafts or checks upon you." Hereafter checks previously drawn by disbursing Officers or disbursing agents who may die, resign, be suspended or relieved, will le paid from funds on hand to their credit, unless the same shall have been drawn more than four months before their presentation or there are reasons for sus pecting fraud or circumstances which would lead ajudicions officer to decline to pay the same. Referring also to the directions in said circular, and on the circlular of the same date to disbursing officers and agents, that public depositaries will not be required to pay drafts of disbursing officers when pays able to-snv person or his order, the con struction which has been placed upon these instructions forbidding the payment of such drafts papable to order is hereby modi fied, and hereafter the Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer and public depositaries are au thorized, in their discretion, when satisfied of the 'correctness of the indorsement% to pay drafts payable to order in cases where serious inconvenience, delay or injury would result by refusing to pay the same.
