being 20 either way. •
In Rent, Saulsbury's majority ls 921,
a Democratic gain of 207 over the election
of 1864.

but indicate the defeat of the Republicans

MISDEMMANOB.—Before Ald. Hutchinson,
this morning, Andrew McFarland and
Sarah Friel were charged with misde
meanor. McFarland resides in a large old
fashioned house, known as the "Bee Hive,"
and located on Callowhill street, west of
Twenty-fourth, and which is now used as a
tenement house, and occupied by a large
number of persons. Sarah is a young girl,
17 years of age, whose parents reside in that
neighborhood. It - is alleged that she left
home and has been harbored by McFarland
in his apartments. Both were held for
trial.
LARCENY.—Octavio Colzado, a young Cu
ban, was arrested yesterday for the larceny
of a piece of cloth, valued at $2O, from the
doorway of the store of Pennell & Bra,, No.
1021 Market street. He was locked up in
theSiath District Police Station, and during
the night attempted to escape by breaking
the Windows of, the cell in which he was
confined. This morning he was taken be
fore Alderman Jones and was held in $l,OOO
bail to answer the charge of larceny and ma-
Wiens mischief.
.ANOTIIER ARREST.—Charles _Harris, co
lored, was arrested yesterday by the Fifth
District Police, upon the charge of the lar
ceny. of wearing apparel in Chester county.
He is also alleged to have stolen a horse.
Be is said to belong to a gang who have
been committing depredations in Chester
county. He is the third one arrested in thik
city and was sent to. Chester county for trial.
STEAMING A COAT AND HAT.—Theodore
Cornwell went into a house on Juniper lane
yesterday and helped himself to a coat and
bat, without the knowledge or consent of
the owner. He was afterwards arrested,
and after a hearing before Alderman Swift,
was committed to answer.
SLIGHT FlRE.—This morning about four
o'clock, the cotton mill of Newton & Co., at
Trenton avenue and Norris street, was
slightly damaged by fire.
SUPPOSED INFANTICIDE.—The body of a
new-born child was found in the Cohock
sink creek, this morning. Coroner Daniels
was notified to hold an inquest.
TICE CHOLERA. —No cases of cholera
were reported at the office of the Board of
Health to-day. The disease has almost
entirely disappeared from the city.

Telegraph Company were connected
throngh from Sydney, Capel3reton,through
Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and the va• . -
rious States of the Union to New Orleans,so
,that the operatots at the former place con
versed freely and rapidly with the latter.
The night was one of peculiar atmospheric
conditions favorable to such a direct; tele
graphic connection, , and the conversation,
was listened to with great Interest :by the
numerous intervening_ stations. The fol
lowing-are the messages: ' •

Glad to hear from sunny . New Orleans..lt's
snowing bard here." ,
New Orleans to Sydney: "Its quite sultry
to-night. We are fighting masquitoes.

PulroTuaous.—A. retter from Stootholm
says - that the Swedish corvette Naiad, dur
ing a late voyage on the Spanish ;coast s
saved the crew of the• English. steamer Gee
long, which was in distress. The captain,
it is added, refused to follow his'crew on
board the - Swedish vessel before he, had
shaved himself.' "It would be ungentle
manly," he said, "to show myself on :board
a foreign vessel before Ihave Shaved," and
the Swedish captain was obliged to wait un
til this , operation had been effected. ScarcelY
had the got on board the Naiad when
his own steamer went down.

Money continues easy, and every facility is afforded
for speculative operations in stocio, yet the market is
far fsom being buoyant The 'bear" movement du
ring the past three months, particularly in Catawissa
Railroad Preferred, has entailed heavy hisses upon
outside holders, and they are unwilling to enter into
any new ventures. There was a moderate demand at
the Board to-day for all the better class of Bonds and
Government Loans were very steady at yesterday's
quotations. The Fl .Twenties, 'V sold at nail the
August Seven-Thirties at 108. and the Ten-Forties at
1001;. 1145 p was bid for the Coupon Sixes. 'Bl, and 114
for the registered do. State Fives sold at 961;—n0
change, and City Loans 102;ighlrei for the new issue;
—the latter an advance of 34 and 983,c, for the old certi
ficates. The Mettgage Bonds of the Camden and
Amboy Railroad Company sold freely at it the Loan
of '75 at 92 Huntingdon and Broad Top Railroad First
Mortgage at 86g87; the Second Mortgage at 79, and
North Pennsylvania Railroad Sixes at 93. Reading
Railroad closed at 5836. Catawissa Railroad Preferred
sold at 2814: Norristown Railroad at 81X. and Phila
delphia and }trio Railroad at V. Canal stocks were
quiet. :Passenger Railway shares were more inquired
after. - aa;they are mostly doing a handsome bust less.
90 was bid for Second and Third Streets. German
stown was firm at 31. The consolidation of this road
with Girard Avenue road has nearly doubled its
business.
The directors of the Penn National Bank have de.
clered a dividend of Five'per cent., payable on de
mand, clear of taxes.
The dividend of the Farmers' and Melhantes' Na•

WAsiszvoTolcr, Nov. 7.—The President; it
is said, regards the elections as a Vindica
tion of his policy, He is quite jubilmit
over Maryland.
Secretary McCulloch is at his department
to-day. He has nearly finished his report.
The War and Navy Department reports
are also ready for the printers.
Tne President stated to-day that now that
the elections were over, it was his intention
to turn out all those who were denouncing
him and his policy.

NEW YORK., Novetuber 7th.—Messages
from Europe of to-day's date were re
ceived in this city at 8.20 o'clock this
morning.
We ere informed that since the reduction
of one-half in the tariff for despatches over
the Atlantic Cable,there has been a large in
crease of busin?ss.

election in this State has caused the greatest
rejoicing among the Radicals. The certain
defeat of that prominent Johnsonite Hogan,

HUDSON, N. Y., Nov. 7.—John R. _Ketch
urn (Rep.) is elected in the Twelfth Con
gresaional District, by 1,800 majority.
New Jersey Election.
NEWARS, Nov. (Rep.) is elected
to Congrs, over Rogers, by about 4,500
majority, and it is believed that Newell
(Rep.) is re-elected in the Second District.
The Congressional delegation will stand
four Republicans to one Democrat. A Re
publican gain of two.
The Fenian Trials.
Molvrituer,, Nov. 7.—D. Devlin, an emi
nent lawyer, is here, having been requested
by the United States Government to defend
the Fenian prisonors here, whose trials will
commence in December.
TORONTO 0. W., Nov. 7.—The Fenian
trials will ;:pe laid over until to-morrow, on
account of the witnesses being absent to at
tend to the elections in the States.
Father McMahon, under sentence of
death, has determined to appeal, for a new
trial.
• An application for a new trial will also
be made on behalf of Col. Lynch.
