with larceny. The complainant was Thomas John
son . who was arraigned yesterday upon a similar
charge preferred by Thompson. Both parties hoard

Want Attention. — The sewers in the
neighborhood of Broad and Pine streets want atten
tion from the proper authorities. They are choked
up and when rain falls the streets are completely
hooded, much to the dlsoomfltnre of parties who are
obliged to pass that way.
Another Abbest.—Owen McCarty was

A’ Valuable Article.— The

Men change their skies, bat not their
stomachs, when they cross the seas. Ho pea can do
natlce to the agonies which must b? endured by Bos
onians when they find themselves condemned to pass
whole weeks In Paris without the slightest hope of get
ting at a mess of pork and beans, or a glass of molas
ses and water, or a handfal of popped oorn, or a dish
of pickled cucumbers, or a white pie, or so much as a
bit of* chewing gum,” or a"caidamom seed.” So says
a Hew York paper. We may add that the most severe
deprivation to a Philadelphian abroad would be the
want of Alter’a coal sold at 957 North Ninth street, and
Sixth and Spring Garden streets.
Latest Pabis Styles.—Mademoiselle
904 Walnut street, would Inform her nu
merous patrons that she is in receipt, per last steamer

The “Morning Glory,” manufactured at
the immense stove works of Messrs. Barr, Johnson &
Co., Brie, Pa , says tne JYes* of this morning, Is re
garded as the most popular stove ever offered to the
public. Two weeks ago it was first introduced Into
Philadelphia, by Mr. G H. Johnson, one ef the firm.
The stove is a beautiful ornament and a superior piece
of mechanism. It may beaten daily at Charles Jones’
store, Nos. 309 and 3U North Second street, abovt
Vine, and also at J. S. Clark’s store, looB Market street
above Tenth. It is very economical—throws out an
Immense amount of heat, if high temperature is re
quired— frees itself wi'h coal, and Illuminates a large
room at the same time—all this at an average saving
of fifty per cent, in coal. No gas can possibly escape
nor dostwhile raking the fire All persons who desire
to preserve their health from the deleterious effects of
gas from coal—who admire cleanliness—should avail
themselves of the present opportunity, and thus em
bellish their residences with a “Morning Glory,” that
blooms and glows with fervent heat and beanty the
colder the weather increases.

TRIUMPH OF
MARVIN’S SAFE.
_ NKWBm, N. C, Sept, 24,1865.
William H. Oliver, Esq., agent for Marvin & Oo.:
Dear Sir:— At the late terrible fire on Mlddlestreet.
which destroyed onr Banking House, we had two or
jour safes. One of them was removed, and we were
removing the other, when we were directed to leave
the office, as an adjoining building was about being
blows up. The entire row of buildings was coe sinned,
bat on opening the Safe we had the satisfaction of
finding everything Inside perfect.
We can cheerfully recommend them as being per
fectly fireproof, as we have examined two others of
your make which were in the same fire, both of which
preserved the books and papers that were In them.
Yours respectfully,

Dear Sib:—One of your safes stood a most severe
trial In my store at the late fire on Middle street.
My store was situated in a row of large wooden build-
UeburniDgof which made a most intense heat.
The trial was severe, but tne safe came out victorious.
On opening it* every book and paper was found In a
perfect state of preservation.
