    Miscellaneous News Items.
Missing.— Saturday last, while toesteamer
Sea Bird was at her dock in Manitowoc, a
passenger came on Board, giving his name
as M. L. Fairbanks. The passenger -took
dinner, and afterwards could not be found,
although a thorough search of the boat was
made for him. Captain McHenry fears that
he fell overboard, His description answers
to that of Mr. M. L. Fairbanks, a young
man who formerly lived in this city, and
was a clerk in the bookstore of Ford & Fair
banks. He has lately' been traveling for a
doth house in Hew York, and has been
doing yieU.—Miheaukee Wisconsin.
Important Litigation.— A Mr. Isaac
Crombie, of Louisville, Kyi; died about a
year, ago and left by will |BO,OOO in behalf
of the Louisville Presbyterian Orphan Asy
lum ; bat as the proper name of the institu
tion was not specified in the will, the word
“Asylum” having beep used instead of
“[Home,” the heirs at law have taken
steps to prevent the payment of the legaoy.
The intent of the devisor being obvions, it
is hoped by those interested, that equity will
assign tfie institution the amount. ~

Singular.— The schooner-smack Alert
Haley, of New London, Conn., arrived in
the latter part .of September, at Pensacola,
Fla., where file was quarantined for fifteen
days. At the expiration pf that time she
was boarded, and all hands were found
dead. Nothing is said with regard to the
cause of death, but the probability is that it
was cholera.
