anniversary, will be celebrated
Church was erected by the German Lutherans, and it
Is still used by that 'denomination for public worship.
The edifice was dedicated June 25,1769. In November,
177'7, it was taken possession of by the-British. who
used it as a hospital. until the 28th of June, 1778, when
the city was evacuated by the English troops. After
some necessary alterations in the interior, the Church
was again dedicated to Divine service, September 22,
1782. The interior of the structure was entirely de
stroyed by fire on the 26th of December, 1791, but it
was soon rebuilt, in November 1796, and
was dedicated 'with appropriate ceremonies. Du
ring the yellow fever epidemics of 1793 and 1793, nearly
a thousand members of the congregation were carried
off. The impressive funeral services in memory of
Washington, ordered by Congress, took place in the
building in December, 1799, and a short time after
wards. the ceremonies of the Grand Lodge of Masons
of this State, in commemoration of the same event,
also occurred there, and the Church remained heavily
draped in mourning until the following Easter. In
honor of the centenary anniversary, the edifice is to
be decorated with flowers, &c.. and the services to
morrow will be appropriate to the occasion. On Mon
day and Tuesday the Church will' be thrown open to
the public.

DOES any one realize what an enormous
sum the amount of salt naanufacturedatthe Onondaga
New York, Salines,' since the springs were fairly
worked, foots up? In 1797 the first superintendent en
tered upon his duties, and the State began to regulate
this important business. Since that period almost one
hundred.andieventY r o , il ions of bushels of salt have
been made. If this were packed in barrels, and the
barrels laid end to end, they would reach almost Seven
and a half times round the earth. If the barrels were
piled one upon another, the huge column would extend
more than two-thirds of the distance between the
earth and the moon. Such a business as that reminds
one of the extent of the coal operations of W. W. Alter
of 957 North Ninth street. Mr. Alter also has a branch
office at Sixth and Spring Garden streets.
AGuA DE MAGNOLIA.—This name is not
more beautiful and poetic than the article it repre
sents is delicious and beautifying. No lady's toilet is
complete without it. It Is Infinitely superior to any
Cologne. It is made from the rich southern Magnolia,
is a delightful perfume, and renders the skin soft and
fresh. it is sold by all dealers at al, in large bottles,
and by Denies, Barnes & Co., New York, wholesale
agents. Try It.
THE BEST CONFECTIONERY.—It 18 import

always secure the best and most profitable as well as
the most elegant descriptions. Mc. c'tei hen F. Whit

manufactared by E, G. Whitman & Co., are not only
delicious, but they are eminently pure and wholesome,
