Great Meeting of Missouri Vnionlita.
ST. Louis, May 11.—The Radical meeting
last night, in commemoration of the capture
of Camp Jacksim, five years ago, was one of
the largest and most enthusiastic gatherings
ever assembled in this city. Speeches were
made from three stands by Gov. Oglesby,
of Illinois, Gov. Fletcher, Secretary of State
Rodman, Chas. D. Drake, and several other
distinguished persons.
The following resolutions were unani
mously adopted:
_Resolved, first, That the question of recon
struction of rebellious States belonging to
• the people through their Senators -and Re
presentatives in Congress, and not to the
Executive, we cannot approve of the at
tempt of the Executive to organize and re
cognize the existence of State . Governments
in those States without the consent of Con
gress.
Second—While we are opposed, to the
adoption by the General Government of a
policy of revenge in its dealings with those
recently engaged in rebellion, we highly re
probate the policy of placing the govern
ment of the States to be reconstructed in the
hands of those who have participated in re
bellion against the Federal Government. -
Third. We are unalterably fixed in our
opposition to the admission to seats in
the National Legislature 4 sof persons who
have actively partialpated in the Rebel
lion until all questions growing out of it are
settled.•
Fourth—That the wisdom and firmness
of the Senators and Representatives in
Congress, displayed in the passage of the
Civil Rights bill over the veto of the
President, merits the warm approval of all
true friends of freedom and liberal Govern-
• .IFtfth—We regard it as the onlytrne policy
not to admit^ any representative of the law
Rebel States into the National Legislature
P
until they have given ample guarantees for
a truly Republican form of Government in
future, and we are entirely opposed to the
repeal modification of the so-called Con
. gress civil test oath.
Sixth—That the National policy known as
the Monroe Doctrine, has become a recog
nized principle in the Republic, and the es
tablishment of an Empire on our border,
upon the ruins of a Republic, cannot be tol
erated.
Seventh—That we are not opposed to. but
in favor of, an amendment to our State con
stitution that can more perfectly guarantee
the citizen in the enjoyment of his civil and
religious liberties.
Eighth—That we hold it to be the duty of
,Congress not to adjourn before the 4th of
March, 1867, unless the reconstruction of the
Union has been settled before that time in
the sense of the principles laid down in the
Declaration of Independence.
The Reported Massacre in Arizona.
A despatch from Wa -hingtori, dated yes
terday, says: A telegraphic - despatch from
San Francisco to the Associated Press, states
that Fort Goodwin, in Arizona, has been
captured by two thousand Indians, and the
garrison, one hundred and twenty-five
men, massacred, with one exception; also,
that the fort was burned: Mr. J. Ross
Brown, who has just arrived in this city,
direct from Colorado river, and who is tho
roughly acquainted with the state of affairs
in Arizona, says th§t it is scarcely possible
this report can be true.
There are not two thousand hostile.ln
diens in the whole territory. The Apaches
are the only tribe agqinstwhom. the Govern-
Ment is now waging war, and the greatest
number of warriors they could gather toge
ther would not amount to more than six or
seven hundred. At this season of the year
when subsistence is scarce, it is ajmost im
practicable for them to keep tftether in
very.large numbers. Two hundred in one
body is a very large force at any time.
Generally, they range in bands of twenty
or thirty. A large party of them could not
subsist for more than two or three days.
Fort Goodwin is situated in a desert tract
of country, about eighty nines from Tucson.
The commanding officer, Colonel-Bennett,
of the California Volunteers, is one of the
most efficient and experienced men in the
country, and to suppose he would permit
two thousand Aches to enter his stockade
and massacre his command is to indulge in
a very improbable supposition. Not more
than one in twenty of these Indians is pro
vided with fire-arms. How conldthey cap
ture an armed post of one hundred and
twenty men? That there may have been
some fighting is highly probable; but this
extravagant report needs confirmation be
fore any credit can be attached to it.

j , HORSE IN A DINING-ROOILL—Mr. McGin
ir . pis, son-in-law of Mr. Joseph Watts, of this
-N." city, on Thursday, rode to the city, hitched
his horse in the yard of Mr. Watts's house,
I '9.7►te his dinner, and was quietly talking over
matters with the family, when a tremen
dous clatter was heard in the recently va
cated dining-room. Upon going to see what
was the matter, they found Mr. McGinnis's
horse. He was fairly " into it," and he re
fused to do anyt•hing except in his own'way.
• He kicked over the table with the debris. of
the dinne4lhe plates, &c.—turned over the
China safe, and smashed all in it-played,
the wild with the tables, chairs; dm., and
finally kicked out one end of the house, and
-.41 , let himself out. We have heard of the - `l3ull
in the. China Shop," but this is the only in
stance which we have known of a horse
grazing in a dining-room. Paducah
Herald, 22d.
THE Belfast (Me.) Age relates that a
housekeeper in that town, at work in a wine
- cellar with two companions, in order to put
«-. things in order before the arrival of the
family from abroad, met with an almost
fatal accident. The door of the cellar, which
was of plank and fastened with a spring
lock, happened to swing to. The lock clicked
and at once all three were made prisoners
For five hours they were shut up in this
closet, with no persons about the premises
or within sound of their voices. At length,
by their united efforts, they succeeded in
wresting the door from its Idnges, and get
ting out of the damp prison, which, in a few
Lours more, would have become their tomb.
• -.DON'T BELONG TO Olni, SET."--The good
people of Panola county, Miss., are in the
• habit of giving parties, and the ladies are
much troubled with the question of what.
is 'to be done in: the case of ex-federal of
ficers and soldiers living in •that section.
The - agitation has reached the papers, and
" the variety of opinions are amusing. One
lady, writing, to the Star, settles the matter
with Spartan brevity—" Sontliern ladies,
