New Jersey Legislature. TRENTON, March 18.—Mr. Seovel offered the following concurrent resolutions in tho Senate yesterday, and they have since been passed by a unanimous vote: Whereas, The cost of the necessaries of life, of food, clothing and rents have in creased .double and in many cases triple, since the war ‘Of the Rebellion began; and whereas, The pay of the officers of the Navy has been other-Wise reduced by taxation, by act of Congress and by executive orders, and knowing that the salaries of naval offi cers is 1:13 , no means adequate to the expenses which their position in society at home and abroad re quires; and since the officers of the Navy have no political representation in the country or in the Government, and since the nation can well afford to place this deserving class of the country's defenders, whose record is one of heroic self-sacrifice and of patient devotion, above the reach of want or embarrassment, therefore Resolved, That the Congress of the United States be requested by us. as they have been requested by the Legislatures of other States, to increase the salaries of naval officers to a point adequate to the increase of expenses of the times, as suggested by their memorial now before Congress. Resolved, That a copy of this preamble and resolutions be sent to our Senators and Representatives in Congress, with the re quest that they will bring the just claims of the navy before Congress as speedily as possible.
