When that is decided, the Committee will proceed to reduce the tax on such articles as are now regarded as taxed too heavily. They have already decided to take the tax off of dress-making, millinery and tailoring —three impOrtant items. For the first time in ten days no delega tions have to-day called upon the President. Several are: said to be anxiously waiting or an opportunity. The increase of the duty on coal by the House, in the reciprocity bill, of one dollar and twenty five cents per ton has fearfully demoralized tile Canadian lobby, who were here to prevent that.very thing. - Admiral Smith and Commodore Turner (the latter having charge of the iron dads), are to be heard on Monday' next, by the House Naval Committee on the League Island qUestion. From Texas. GAITESTON3 March Btb, 1866.—A census of theinliabitants of Texas is to be taken every ten years, dating from Feb. 6, 1860. The ordinance annulling the ordinance of secession is still under discussion. New York advices have caused a decline of ten per cent. in boots and shoes, and in domes tic goods fifteen per cent. The market is dull. The latest report from the plantations are very favorable. General Wright, medi cal inspector, has determined on vigorous sanitary measures as a precaution against the cholera. - Release of Mallory,. NEW YORK, March 10th.—The Daily News'states that orders were received yesr terday for the release on parole of S. SI. Mallory, the former rebel Secretary of the Navy. The animals finally broke the strap by which they were fastened; and dashed off to Eansom street at tr fearful rate; The street was filled with other vehicles at the time. bnt their all enraned injury. At Eleventh street the carriage was overturned and broken, and the runaways cecame detacned from it. B.— The last sad honors were paid "to the remains of the late Dr. David Jayne to day. The family residence in Third street near Spruce, was for several helm filled with a throng ofrelatives. friends and. acquaintances of the deceased. enetonstant stream of persons pass ing the open coffin, which lay in the' parlor of the house. The 'aspect of the deceased was, 'calm and peaceful. though his form bad suffered from the attack at the disease which has hurried him into the grave. The inside coffin was covered with silk velvet s and it was in be enclosed in aleaden coffin, which ere this peri , has been deposited in the family vault of Woodlands Cemeteerryy Theseligloose services at the house were unusually Impressive. The Rev J. Wheaton Smith, pastor of the Spruce Street Baptist. Church made a most affecting address. Dr. Jayne was one of the most prominent members of this Church, and the relations between himself and the pastor wereof the most intimate char. enter. His remarks gathered deep feeling from this reason, and the solemnized hearere were strongly af fected. The Bev. G D. Boardman.pastor of the church at Broad and Arch stree , s, read the burial service, after which prayer was offered by Rev. P.S. Henson. - The funeral then proceeded to Woodland Cemetery, the cortege consisting of, about one hundred and twenty carriages. The pall bearers were Messrs. Joseph lised, Benjamin Bullock, Edward M. •Paxson, William P. Wilstach,:tamnel H. Perkins. J. Mc Arthur, Jr. George W. Childs and Samuel 0. Moon. The obsequies showed in a - most striking manner the respect in which the memory of Dr. Jayne is held, and we may state that among the participants in the solemn ceremonies were - a very large number of the Masonic brethren of the deceased. • MAN DROWNED.--Last evening, about nine o'clock; an unkuown man walked off the dock at Spruce street wha.rf,Delaware. He struck his head against an oyster boat and was drowned. His body was subsequently recovered by the Harbor Police and this morning, Coroner Taylor held an inquest. The deceased was about 40years of age, bad light hair and reddiSh whiskers.
