An adjourned meeting of Common Conn
ell was held last evening for the purpose of
considering the appropriation bills fOr 1866.
Before'proceeding to the special business,
Mr. Mercer submitted a communication
from John Given, enclosing his sureties as
City Commissioner. • Referred. ,
Among the appropriation bills repotted
from the Corritnittee dh Finance, was one
making
, rt appropriation to the Prison In
spectors. A majority report contains items
• with the salaries of Officials increased, while
the. -minority report protests against any
fuither increase of the city's liabilities. Both
reports were ordered to be printed.
The Cliajnber resumed the Consideration
of the ordinance making an appropriation to
the Guardians of the Poor. The item of
codfish, butter, rice, corn, hominy, barley,
salt and pepper , reported at $18,500, was re
duced to, 4 15,000; the item of $26,500 for coal,
was reduced to $20,000. Other items were
reduced; and the ordinance finally passed,
the total amount appropriated being $433,-
250, or $19,600 less than asked for by the
Guardians. .
The ordinance making an appropriation
to the Department for supplying the city
with water, for 1866, was next considered.
The amount asked for was $349,375, and
amendments reducing the sum t 0,5287,625
were agreed to. The ordinance as amended
was agreed to. Adjourned.

Rights for Sale.
It is one of the most useful inventions for domestic
use ever offered to the public. The flour Is sifted In
one-quarter the time (and ranch better than by any
other process) by putting the flour in the top of the
Sifter, then, by turning the crank the Moor passes
through the sieve with great rapidity. Clean, very
fine and Light. This Sifter has no India rubber
rollers to grind up thedirt. such as bugs, worms, dies,
ce.c... but sins all articles and leaves the dirt remaining
in the sieve: the Sifter is made of tin, is very neat and
easy to keep clean. It is the only Sifter now in use
that gives bATISFACTION. Every Sifter is warrant
ed to give satisfaction. Be sure and ask for Spencer's
Patent Tin Sifter.

The especial attention of Coal Consumers is called to
a careful perusal of thefoitowinp:
The Shawnee Mutual Coal Company are now placing
before the public In Phitadotphia a description of coal
heretofore almost unknown in MU naarkzt and of a
quality which challenges all compaa:zon. Those who
are using it from the yards of the company testify
unhesitatingly to its superiority over all other coal.
This coal comes from the region o (Plymouth. Lucerne
county, is distinctive to itacharacierhad maybes niefiy
described as combining the beat Qualities of both
Lehigh and Schuylkill, comparatively free
the defects of either, and or, re - mar/a:lWe purity. It =
delight of all who use it. This company is selling a lim
ited nunfber of the shares of stock th ten dollars per
share cash, securing for each share a ton of coal an
nually and perpetually. Certificates of stock Seined
immediately. Or being desirous of meeting the con
