the Assistant Provost Marshal-General, or the
United States Mastering Officer for Philadelphia.
Claimants for the bounty must be vouched for
by a responsible United States Officer. Officers
will bring their men to the office in squads for the
purpose. •

recruitß in new organizations and veterans re-en-

Proposals vok bituminous coals. -
Sealed Proposals will be received at the Office
of the Philadelphia Gas Works, No. 20 Booth
SEVENIH Street, until noon of FRIDAY, 22d of
April, 1564, for supplying the whole or any part
ot Eighty Thousand Tom of Bituminous Coals, suit
able for the manufacture of illuminating Gas, to be
delivered on the Railroad tracks of the Gas Works
at the First Ward and the Ninth Ward S ations, in
the following monthly quantities; e‘ght thousand
tons In each of the months of September, October,
November, December.-and six thousand tons In
each of the months of June, July. August, ISM,
and January, February, March, April and May.

The coals must be delivered fresh, dry, and of a
onality approved by the Engineer or the Gas
Works, as equal to the sample on which the con
tract Is based.
The proposals must describe the particular va
riety of coals intended to be supplied and the lo
cation and name of the mine or pit from wbtcn
tney are io be raised. If theyare of a kind min
now or recently need at these WoTke, samples tor
trial of not less than fifty tons, must be delivered
at the Works, on or before the 7th of April next.
The gross ton of 224 ii pounds will be considered
as the weight intended in the proposalß, unless ths
contrary be expressly stated.
The Trustees reserve the right to accept any pro
posals In whole or in-part, or to reject all, Mr they
may deem best for the interests of the Trqst, and
in the event of failure on the pa-1 of any contrac
tor to deliver the coals accordingto his atreementv
both in quantity and quality, the Trustees reserve
the right to buy elsewhere, whatever quantity
may be required to meet the deficiency, ana charge
to the contractor any loss or damage arising from
each failure.
Payments will he made monthly, In two equal
Instalments at four and six months alter the speci
fied peilods ol delivery, the 15th of each month
being taken as the average of the monthly delive
ries, or at the option of the Trustees, will be made
at earlier dates with legal Interest off.
Should contractors prefer to make deliveries
eaTlier than required, they maybe received so tar
as they can he conveniently stored, but payment*
will be made to date from the time specified to tne

You are, therefore, charged and strictly enjoined
and commanded, that yoa omit not, but that by
publishing these presents in* at least two of
me daily .newspapers printed and published
in the city of Philadelphia, and in the
Legal Intelligencer, yon do monish and
cite, ot cause to be monished rind cited, peremp-
