NINE THOUSAND DESERTERS
X FROM the rebel army.
THE POSITION OF AFFAIRS AT KNOXVILLE.
Washington, Feb. 6.— Private information
direct from Chattanooga, is to the effect that
several days ago, though there was a force at
Dalton, the main body of the rebel army was
at Borne, Ga., under Johnston.
The latter fact is accounted for on the
ground either that the enemy were forced to
go to Borne for convenience to their supplies,
or to prevent desertions—between &,000 and
9.000 men having come into our lines since
the battle at Missionary Bidge.
There is no such alarm at Chattanooga about
the safety of our troops in the neighborhood o
Knoxville as seems to prevail elsewhere, and
many of the published accounts to* that effect
are characterized as exaggerations.
The courier line between Chattanooga and
Knoxville was uninterrupted.
BAILBOAD ACCIDENT ON THE BONG BBIDGE.
Washington, Feb. 6 —At twelve o’clock to
day a train of cars going into Virginia was pre
cipitated into the Potomac, the draw of the
Long Bridge being open and not perceived by
the engineer. The cars were loaded with lum
ber. S everal persons had their limbs fractured
and it is supposed that the engineer was
drowned.

It cleanses and renovates the blood, inatHu the
vigor of health into the system, and purges out the
humors which make disease. •It stimulates the
healthy functions of the body and expels the dis
orders tbat-grow and rankle in the blood. Such a
remedy, that could be relied on, has long been
sought for. and now, for the firsitbne, the public
have one on which they can depend. Our space
h**re does not admit certificates to show its efffect,
but the trial of a single bottle will shew to the sfcfc
that it has virtues surpassing anything they havw
ever taken.
Two tablespoonsful of the Extract of Sarsaparil
la added to'a pint of water, is equal to the Libsou
Diet Drink, and one bottle is fully equal to a gal

as usually made. '
