On tbe 17th day of July last, a young
man named Alfred M. Bowers, married a
young girl in Plum township, tbls county,
under rather peculiar and embarrassing sir
cumstances. The parties, It appear, bad
loved "not wisely, but too well," and tbe
parents to prevent a disclosure which would
result in their daughters shame and against
their own goed name, In a quiet way, com
menced I. gal proceedings against the person
named, but before many legal steps were
taken lie concluded to marry the gitl, and
tbey were united In tbe bonda of matrimony
by Wm. Gilliland, Esq Tbe young man
prouiited to faitblully perform the duties 01
a husband, and tbe prospects wer that the
wrong dune through imprudence on tbe par1
of both parties would be righted and all
would be well. But these fond hopes were
dashed to tbe earth. Tbe near relatives
and friends of the groom persuaded tim to
desert his bride, after having enjojao a
honey-moon of two day duration. He ef
fused to provide for ber and she resists
with ber parents, who are poor but respecta
ble and booest people, and feel beart-broken
and despondent at tbe misfortunes of their
daughter. Her busbacd is now said lo be
living in a remote portion of tbe township,
and reported to be paying attentions to an
other young lady. Spectator.
