Tbe Roueevillo Bullotia of Saturday even
log Bays:
Au fcoldont occurred 09 tbe ITanna farm
iMt evening, by wblcb a man in the employ
of Mr. I. S. Gibson, Suparintentlent of tbe
farm was near losing his 1 if. It appears
that parties were employed in withdrawing
Iba tubing, and Mr. vantine, one of the
number, was up in tbe derrick about forty
feet above the floor. As tbe work was pro
gressing, tbe tubing parted, and permitted
tbe gas to escape, wblcb filled tbe eurronuii
lug atmosphere and penetrated tbe engine
bouse, took fire trom tbe furnace, and with
a report like tbe disobarge of a heavy piece
ot ordnance flashed back to tbe derrick
and completely enveloped everything in
(lamer. Tbe men at work on tbe floor ol
tbe derrick escaped without barm, but with
Mr. Vantine tbe case was difl'erent. He
with a presence of mind which has in times
past made men famous in history, seized
bold of tbe rope by wblcb the tubing was
bolng withdrawn and let himself down
through tbe seething flames and escaped
itb tbe loss of hair, beard, and tbe greater
portion of bis clothing. Tbe iti juries be re
ceived from tbe flames were very severe
and painful, and it will be many days be
fore bo can resume bis avocation. Hit es

alter being struck, and was still burning at
latest dates, A pipe was arranged to carry
tbe oil away, and through this it is pump

We learn from parties who arrived from
Foster, last evening, that the well is flow
log from 300 to 400 barrels per day.
Tbe production is probably over estimated
somewhat.
