Zoe, the beautiful Cuban sylpb, and her
talented company and brass band, is an
nounced to appear at tbe Opera House for
four nights, commencing Monday, Jan. 24.
M lie oe ib highly epoken of by onr ex
changes and her company Is acknowledged
tj be the best now traveling. And In refer
ence loM'lle Zoe she Is certainly one Tf
tbe most brilliant stars in the dramatio pro
fession, having held the most prominent
positions in the dramatio world. Her spec
ialities are tolely her own, and at a swords-
woman she has no equal in the world either
ou or off tho stage, and Is universally pro
nounced the handsomest woman on tbe
llage. The gentlemanly agent, Mr. Tom.
V. Brown, paid us a visit to-day. Besides
thoroughly understanding the business of
advance agent, Is an old actor himself hav
ing performed (n all tbo leading theatres ot
the country With so gentlemanly and
whole-souled a fellow as Browu to do the
billing and advertising ahead of the com
pany, is of itself a sufficient guarurttee of
the excellence of the company, and we
bve no doubt they will be greeted with
crowded houses.
Ludicrotis ui stakes very ofiea occur In
the trans mission ot telegrams. Sucb a case
occurred yes:enlay. Two brothers who we
will call Smith weut to Parker's Lindinir,
intending to come bask at night. Finding
after arriving there that tbej could not get
bicx the same night on account of the train
being delayud, they sent tbe following mes
sage to Brown by V. U. Line: "Train de
layed; will be up first train la the morn
ing." Through tbe blundering of the oper
ator there the message was tent thus:
'Frank died; will be up in tbe morning."
Of coiirsa the receipt of such a mesaite
caused quite a senallou among tho friends
of the supposed dead man, and it was some
time beloru the mistuke .was' discovered.

Sherry's New York Theatre are to return

New attractions will be'uffercd. '
f An explosion occurred at a drilling well
on the -Hog Back," naar Wild Cat Hollow,
last night, by which two brothers named
Brando, who were drilling at the time were
quite severely burned. It seems that the
tools struck a gas vein at tbe depth of a few
hundred feet, and tbe gas came rushing out
with great force and catching fire fioiu a
derrick lamp exploded burning the two men
quite 'jadly. They were attended by Dr.
Kosliug.
It is expected that times will be qnlte
lively on Calaboose Run, in tbe vicinity cl
the recent strike. Several new derricks are
ate to be put at onee.
Quite an excitement was created In Oil
City last evening 'at tbe discovery of the
dead body of a colored woman la a houi-e
on Center Street. From appeareoces It
would seem that the woman was victim ol
abortion. Her namo is Anna Hobecca
preen,: and she was Jiving with a colored
family named Adums., who together witb
bis wife bus been arrested. The niur
