The most romantic spot In this vicinity is lint which has received the name or Lov er's Leap. The story goes on this wise: Slore than a hundred "years ago, an Indian maiden bad two lovers. Both loved ber to .l-otrnetinn. indeed to' SUCh an extent that corn bread and venizen wero oot palatable. She returned the love of one, but not ot the one who basked In the smile of her father. Here waB a pretty pickle, tor in those days Jlormoniatjri was unknown or any other sys tem by wWch plurality of wives or duality of husbands was recognized. The father stood out rot bis lavorlte, but still no Indian ever forced his daughter to wed against bur desire. IU.t " proposed a foot-race to de cide the matter. He that was the swiftest of foot and longest of wind should b ivo too dusky maiden. Both lovers were forced to submit to tbis arrangement. Tbe spot se lected for the raco was a beautiful grove which overtowerswbat we now call Pioneer City. The day came, and with it of course great crowd, chief, squaw, pappose, all were there. Tbe maiden gave tbe signal for starting and off both lovers went. The fatber'savortto won the race, and stepped forward to embrace bis prize. But she pre ferred death to such a husband, and Imme diately spraDg over the bank into the wa ters of Oil Creek. Tbe lover of her choice followed her In ber desperate leap. Tbe re sult was fatal to both of tbe lovers man and maiden. Both bodies were recovered and burled near tbe Bpot where they leaped into tbe water. Such Is the legion of Lover's Leap. It Is said to be a fact, and we understand it is confirmed by tbe testimony of old Cotfiplan ter, who owned all this land once, and bunt ed the deer wbero we now hunt oil. The New Secretary ot the Muv jr. The Hon. (ieorge M. Robeson is o son of Jndj?e Win. P. Iloboson, of Warren county, K. J., who was a loading Whig, long and prominently connected with tbe politics of tlm state. Mr. Robeson entored Princeton College iu 1S44. and upon graduating in 1S4G entered tbenfllce of Chief Justice llorublower, at Newark. Upon concluding his legal studies in 1850 be was associated for lin, ! lbe practice of bis prolession with the Hon. A. C. M. Remington. Sub sequently removing to Camden, be was ap pointed Prosecutor of tbe Pleas; for that county in 18o9. Upon tbe election of Mj. Freltnliuy tiuii as senator in 1867, Mr. Robe- sou was appointed Attorney General of (he State by Governor Ward, which position he has held until tbe present time. Ho Is a bout tarty-one years of age, and justly holds a bigb rank in bis r.roti?ion. To bis fine legal qualifications be unites a goneral knowledge and practical ability which give promise of (Hciency aud usefulness in bis new position. Mr. Robeson Is a strong and decided Republican, and has keen earnest and active in tbe f upport of his principles On all questions of national policy h is !n entire accord witb tbe party which support ed tbe election of General Grant. It is a curious coincidence that tbo .only position ever held la tbe Cabinet by a citizen of New Jersey bas been that of Secretary of tbo Navy. In 1823 Samuel L. Southard was appointed Secretary of the Navy by President Monroe, and he continued In that potition during tbe entire administration of John QnincVAdama: In 1S34 Mablon Dick- erson was appointed Secretary of tbe Navy by President Jackson, aud be continued in tbe Cabinet of Mr. Van Buren for more tbuu a year. Af- Gr.ixd Concert at Tarii Farm. Dion A. DeMarbelle, tbe poet, singer and ven triloquist, assisted by tbe Tarr Farm Silver Band, will give a grand concert at tbe Tarr Farm School Honse on Thursday evening July 1st. The programme is an Interest ing one, and well calculated to please a dis criminative audience. A bridge bus been washed away near near I'orry, Ta., on the Atlantic & Great Western railroad, and a passenger train ran off tbe track, killing an engineer named- Sprague. No passengers are reported kill ed. CoLnl Cold! Nothing is colder or more refreshing during this present warm weatbor than Sam. Bloomer's ice. His Ice wagon in its daily visits relieves a want a vacuum. He fills orders promptly. Mips Barker who has a school InBragR's building, adjoining lbe Aniurican Hotel, on yesterday afternoon gave tlio pupils, the rare treat of a plo-nic, on the Espy Farm. We sxw the procession of. little folks last even i.i;; as they were returning to lbe school room. Before dispersing, they gave three hearty cheers for their teacher. Thentre The Favorltea Lnut pearauce This Evening. It is witb pleasure we note tbe suueess of the theatrical company now playing a short engagement at Akln's Hall, in this place. Last evening's programme'was mirthful, w t i a sprinkling of instructive sentiment. In "Napoleon's Old Guard," Mr. Robert John ston's representation of Haversack, one of Napoleon's body guard In tbo great buttles and marches from tbo Alps to St. Helena, was sublime, beautiful, and brought back to the mind of the hi9tcrian the desiis of the great monarch and his faithful followers, witb a vividness Impressive, lasting. In this personation Mr. Johnston won the ad miration of bis audience, as reality Itself could not have been more perfect. His sup port in ibis drama was a decided improve ment on tbe evening previous. Little Nellie, In the laughable farce- or 'Jenny Lind at Last," seemed to bu in htr happiest mood, persona'ting ''Jenny iicath erlungs" seemingly to us with that perfect freedom, bomo-liko character, for which she is so justly celebrated. Little Nellie in truthfully styled tbe, 'bright star of the American stage,' as in all characters similar to those personated by ber lust evening, ber manner, appearance, apparent good nature, adds materially not only to bererery move ment and speecb, lint to the play in which she takes a prominent pan. As '-Our Nan last evening, she displayed again ber gonial good nature, which wins for her tho admi ration of an audience. J. F. Ward, her chief support in the last named character, although wo should judge a little "mixed," tccary, probably from a day of excessive recreation, was humorous and witty as a comiqne. To-night will be their last appearance un. til tbo night of July 5th, tbe troupe, in the meantime, filling an engagement at Titus ville. Tbe programme for tbis evening is "Andy Blake' and the laughable farce, "Bob Nettlos, or School in an Uproar." Little Nellie as Andy Bluko and Bob Net tles is'a host, andjtlio ball will again be fill ed to-night. Ox tho 12th Inst., a man named Lewis K Cole, representing himself as agent of the Chicago Life Insurance Company, rented a portion of an office In lbe basement of tho Ocean National Bank, of New York. Tbe only piece of furniture he put in beside a desk, was a large high case. Sunday noon the janitor of the bank found everything safe, since when bole was cut throng'.; from the basement to a back office of the bank by burglars who, wilb a large quanti ty of tine tools which th-y lelt behind, forced and bl'.nv open several sales, empty ing tbcm of their contents. Everything was found in confusion yestorday morning. The bank oflicials state that only about $20,000 in Government bonds belonging to tbe bank bavo been stolen, the thieves lea viug a bag containaug $20,000 iu gold in one of the safes, and over $120,000 in gold certificates and clearinghouse exchanges for $30,000 untouched. The securities were deposited in the bank by customers, and about $20,000 worth f checks were carried off. No clue to tbo burglars. A Child fo.Ua From a Window Fifty Feel Abovo the Oround. Saturday morning at about half paBt sev en o'clock the family of Mr. Charles Fried man, at No. 195 Main street, was thrown Into deep distress by an accident of the most painful character, tbe particulars of which are as follows: While the nurse was in a room of the fourth fctory fronting on Main street, In order to air the room, she raised tbe sash of a window, the sill of which is nearly level with the Qoor. Tho girl then left tbe room for an moment, when one of tbe children, a bright little glti named Laura, soma two years old, toddled to tho windownd in one instant was gone, Tbe little one fell at least filty feet to the stone sidewalk, and yet slie was picked up alive. It seems that iu the descent the child first struck upon a large fchow lump attached to the old billiard moms on iho first floor. Tbis broke the lull, else it would have dash ed lbe child in phce!-; as it was tbe skull was slL-htlv fractured, and Ibo little limbs badly bruised. A phvsiciau was caed, and nil thut cutilil be done to ease tbe pain of the little one w.is eagerly attended to, but in ppiteol the soothing attention given it tho poor child died ationt ten o'clock, alter three hours of Intense suffering. The ci.ief injury was found to he n slight fructmv of tbo hea l. Tbe face was not marred at nil. Iinffiilo Express.
