We are now entering upon the warm
months, at which lime, in all well regulat

thoroughly cleanse their yards, remove the
gathered liltu from every quarter, and give
a healthful appearanco to everything. We
liava no corporation here, and to place our
Btreets and yards in Q bcaltby condition,
must depend upon the neatness and care of
those who occupy the grounds. It U a great
wonder wo have not, before this, been visit
ed with plagues to a much greater ex
tent, . us certainly disease arising
from filthlnesj never received more encour
agement to locate than it does in Petrol-
urn Centre 1 1 prosont. Not only are our
streets tilled with the slosh of a whole win
ter's gathering, but the back yards between
Washington street and the railroad, and al
a 1 on tho opposite side to the Creek, are in
a condition sickening to tho sight and dang
erous to life. Will there not bo some ac
tion taken to remove this barrier to health
fi'om ruining US'. Tho Central Petroleum
Company could benefit us by draining into
the creek, and this, with the assistance of
occupants of the-land, woulcrgiently im
prove our . sanitary .condition. Disease wo

The receipts of the ticket agent oftbe
Pacific Railroad at Oiunlut have averaged
$4,000 per day since the opening- of the
road. One day last week the evening train
for Sacramento took seven' passenger cars

New Well -at-West Hickory. The
Tiutsville Star of this morning says: A
new well was struck a day or two since at
West Hickory, and Is pumping from SO to
100 barrels per day. The well is 470 feet
deep and- Is only down to the third rock.
The oil produced is a cross between tho
black and green oils. This well is In a (lif
erent locality froai those put down at that
place during the winter and Spring of 1S65.

The repairing of the- railroad' slide near
Tryonville, has not progressed as rapidly as
was anticipated. At the time it gave way
there were three gvavel cars on the track,
which have entirely disappeared in tho
quicksand, and ntlast accounts they were still
going down. No attempts are being made
to raise them, and workmen are filling la
over them.
Yosbuite Bitters Establishment Re
moved. Dr. Downer, proprietor of Yuso-
mite Bitters, has removed bis manufactory
to the store nearly opposite Shannon's Dry
Goods store. His new quarters are more
comnodious, which is necessary, owing to
the increasing demand for bis popular Bit
ter. The Doctor is deserving of success,
and if energy and perseverance is a criterion,
he Is on tho sure road.

ment at the Opera House, given by the
Haverly Minstrels. This troupe is very
highly spoken of by the press wherever tbey
have given entortainmeuts. Their jokes,

and we feel assured that thoso who attend
will bo highly gratified and well paid for

Novel Entertainment Indian Show
Petroleum Centre is to be visited on Fri-'
day next, afternoon and evening, with an
entertainment to be given by a company of
Indians, composing notable warriors, braves
and squaws, from tho Western Plains. Tbey
will perform under a tent on the circus
ground, opposite the depot, and will repre
sent the customs of the lifo of tho Wild In
dian. Trapez performances, tumbling, etc.,
also connected with the entertainment.

Death of Dan W. Carpenter. From
the New York Clipper of tbo 29th nit., we
learn that Dan W. Carpenter, moro famil
arly known as Dan Collins, minstrel and
character singer, and manager of what was
knowu as Collins' Minstrels, died at the age
of 33 years, at the residence of bis parents,
No. 22 South Third street, Brooklyn, on
the 20th ult., of consumption. II is decease
is deeply deplored by bis relatives and
friends because of the amiable qua!
ities he possessed, and bis generous and
genial onuuot toward thoso with whom bo
came in contact. The deceased had many
friends iu Petroleum Centre. Ho was bur
tied in Cypress Cer.jetry, on the 23d tilt.,
and bis funeral was largely attended.
.Albert Tyler (colored) was executed a
noon Saturday for poisoning P.'IIubbard,
also coloruu, whose child Taylor had at
tempt to outrage and who had threatened
to have bim arrested. Tyler, who seented
little. better than a brule in intelligence,

1st. Tho qualified voters of the Republi
can party of Venango County shnll meet in
fie several Wards, Boroughs and Town
ships in said County, at such places as iball
be designed by tho acting Executive Com
mittee, on tho first Snturdoy of June next,
and each year thereafter, and then and
there elect, by ballot, one member of the
Executive Committee of the party, to re
present each of said Wards, Boroughs and
Townships; and they shall in tho same
manner designate and select the names or
such candidates for the offices to be voted
for at tbo next ensuing general election as
they muy desire to bo nominated for the
said offices.
4th. No person shall be permitted lo
vote at said primary election who is not a
qualified citizen, under the laws oftbe Com.
monwcaltb. If tbo rightof any person to vote
is obj 'Cted to for the reason that be is not
a member of the Republican party, it shall
be tho duty of the Inspectors to examine
matters touching tho right of such person lo
vole, and the fact that he voted for the
nominees of said party at the previous gen
eral election and publicly and fully identi
fied himself , wilh the Republican party
shall be substantiated, in addition to bis
own statement, by the statement of at least
one qualified citizen iu good Btaudiug in
the Republican party. Provided, That
persons under the ago of twenly-ono years
but who shall arrive at the age of twenty
one years on or before the next ensuing
general election, shall be entitled to vote
upon having previously mado public de
claration of their indention to vote at the
next ensuing general election for tho can.

with the list of voters, tally papers, and
ballots shall be placed in an envelope and
scaled.
7th. On the Tuesday next, after the
election, the members of the Executive
Committee, representing the several War,
Boroughs and Townships, shall assemble at
the Court House, in Franklin, at 11 o'clock,
A. m , and proceed to add together the

son or persons in respect to any ofiioe, and
after ascertaining the number of such voters

be deliverced by the Chairman of said Com
mittee to the person who shall hi subse
quently elected Chairman of the newly
