for United States Senator by the Hepuhli.

Mr. Thayer, ol Reasalaer, and Mr. W. M.
Ely, of Oneida, were appointed tellers anil
a motion to proceed to a formal ballot was
adopted.
Judge Campbell, ef Otsogo, nominated
Reuben E. Fenton: lion. Lyman Truman,
nominated Edwin D. Morgan.
Speeches were made in behalf of .Mr. Fen
ton by Messrs. Yoiingleve, Cameron, LeHin
and I'atkes. Messrs. Hugeman and Folger
spoke in lavor ol Mr. Morgan.

There being one vole in excess, a motion
to rreceeii to another ballot was carried.
