On Friday evening the Concert given by
the Venango County Musical Association
for the' benefit of tbe Catholic Fair, was tbe
mart decided, success of any they have
given this season. The audience was Intel
ligent, refined, and appreciative, and the
kali was literally crowded.
Tbe opening chorus, "Sleighing Glee,"
with bell accompaniment, was handled with
much spirit.
Tbe solo, "I would be a soldier," was'
sung by Capt. W. H. Colling, with kia hab
itual good taste.
The duett, "Ave Sanolissima," we never
keard sung more sweetly than on this oc
casion, by Mrs. E. S. Brandon and Mir. S,
C. Nisklln.
Miss Emma Headerliter, Id the solo.
"Heme of my heart," manifested the pos
session of vocal talent of a high i.Mer. A
pupil of Professor N. E. Skinner, who rank
at tbe head ef bis profession, she will with
study, attain to excellence as a vocalist
Mr. E. A. Kelley was In fine voice, and
snng several Buffo pieces with such effect
aa to convulse the audience with laughter,

The ABC duett between Mrs. Brandon
and Mr. K. waa loudly encored.
The solo, "Spring Time," and "Salus a
la France," Mrs. E. S. Brandon, weie given
in tbe exquisite taste that always marks
this lady's efforts.
Mr. McCutebeon waa encored in tb
"Deltcber'sDog."
The Quartette, "Come in besutlful
dreams," was sung very correctly and with
much expression, by Mrs. Brandon, Miss
Duff, and Messrs. Wm. Poole and McCuteb
eon. Hiss Duff baa a fine contralto voice,
under good cultivation, and sings her rols
with uniform good taste.
Tbe choruses were all sung In a manner
Indicating careful training on the part ol
the Musical Director, Prof. N. E. Skinner.
The Association Is fortunate in having tbe
services of so eminent a musician. Mr. S.
has tbe offer ot a highly lucrative profes
sional engagemeat both in Boston and
Chicago.
Among tbe singers were Miss Williams,
Jennie Harding, Julia Smith, Mrs. H. C.
White, and Miss Colling.

symbols of office. After the ceremony Gov.
Hofl'maa held a reception at the Executive
