fax to day and presented the resolutions which
had been unanimously - adopted by the, commit
tee, approving the sentiments ennunciated in
bla speech delivered In Washington two weeks
ago. Mr. Cessna, la the course of his remarks
geld they had watched the course of Mr. Colfax
In Congress with a great deal of interest and
confidence, and expressed his gratification, that,
endorsed by his fellow members, ne was des
tined again to fill the Speaker's Chair, the duties
of which he had d.scharged with so much
efficiency and popularity.
Mr. Colfax, in reply, said that the regard and
confidence of his own constituents were always
highly prized and appreciated by him, bat when
the -representatives of the Caton party of a
great State like that of Pennsylvania, tendered
such a manifestation of their approval, there
was additional canoe of gratitude and thankful

armies, and the defenders of the cave of the
Union encountered all the prejudices grassing
out of taxation, accumulating debt, and the

Given, and, In numerous speeches, urged the
claims of the only soldier candidate presented.
