Tbe pirate Shenandoah ha; at last arrived
A
ome, having been -absent aince Oct. 8, 1%4,
during which time ahe - tuns It= around she
world, sinking, burning, destroying and bond
ing- American - vessels. Among her last nets
was the destrudien of our North-Western
Cored whaling fleet. Some months ago she
was outlawed, and now has the audacity to seek
an aeyluM under the protection of the flag
which aided, supported and gas:stied her in safe
ty until she could place herself lieferid the
reach of Federal cruisers.
What the next move of these pirates will be,
or what disposition will be made of the reseal,
lea question - which natured yarises in the pub
lic mind The conduct of the British Govern
ment Lsno criterion by which to judge of the
'future. le generally believed that this Gov
ernment will make at formal demand for the
rued, her officers and crew, but we do not sea
b o w that, can be mum, as she is a Brithlll-VCIPSei
in everything, kora her keel to her track.
The Sea Ringlms built at Glasgow to .oeto
ber, 18433. 'and Iva registered as thcproperty of
William Welfacc, banker, of London, and oth
ers ; her registered tonnage being 720 tuns, her
combined power being 2W-borne, end her frame
work iron with Wood - planking. Oa the 20th
of September, 1864, she was transferred by bill
.of sale to Richard Wright, shipowner of Liver.
pool, who was a very near connection of the
rebel financial agent in that town.
On the Dinh of September P. S. Corbett was
Indorsed as master, and on the 7th of October
I Richard Wright executed a certificate of este to
Peter Luther Corbett, -the muster, empowering
him to sell the Sea King
. at any port oat of the
United ItiugdOm;, for not less than .gt 5,000,
['within six months from date of certificate, Bite
was then entered and cleared, in ballast, as an
ordinary merchant vessel, at London for Bom
bay.
, In the meantime, another vessel called the
' Laurel, and owned by Henry Llfone of Liver
' pool, was taking on board-all the necessary ar.
mament, stores &c., several rebel officers and a
large number of men. On 118 same day that
the Sea King sailed from- Loudon-for Bombay,
the Lanrcl sailed from Liverpool for Nassau..
The two vessels met at Madska, and from there
proceeded in company to an Island near-by.
and there, within Portuguese oat r, the ar
mament noel men were (Ally transferred
from the Laurel to the Sun King. both vessels
being still under the British flag. The Sea
I King was was thou renamed Shenandoah, hoist
ed the rebel dog, and set forts on her piratical
cruise. Her armament consisted of six guns,
tin four 68-ronittlins and two S3-pounders,
with a 101 l craw of British sailors. The first we
heard of her aftershe loft Madeira was that she
had destroyed Islets' vessels in the nelthborhood
orthe Island of S., Helena. Her next perform
!wee wen to double the Cape of Good Hope
and cruise 'around in the Bay of Bengal and the.
Straits of Sandy. She next ramie her appear
ance In the port of Melbeitune, Australia, and
was coaled, provishaeed and received a re-en
forcement of men strictly in accordance with
BrUisA neutradiro.
After remaining, there for SOl/10 time she star
ted anew on her career of devastation. The
next we hear of the pirate Is last she is In the
Arctic Ocean capturlog, destroying and bond
ing the vessels composing our wha'ing fleet.
From the beginning of April to the ende r Juno
she destroyed and bonded twenty-nine vessels,
thus entirety breaking up the whaling season In
. that quarter. We append a list of vessels de
stroyed or bonded - by the pirate in the Arctic:

The Treacle in the above list were ail-destroy
ed excepting the last font, which were bonded,
simply because Waddel wanted to get rid of bee
prisoners. The war having by Lois thus been
brought to a close, Wadael was soon Informed
of the fact, but he affected not to believe this.
as it was not to his Interest to do 641, bat be still

or the property of Amerleen citizens.
- The British Government were at last compelled
to dispatch a vessel to put 'a atop to the ravages
of the pirate. For the last ruonth or on her
movements have been shrouded is mystery, and
the text we hear of her she is is the port or
Liverpool. Her entire history Is a doe commen•

"mother country" haa been maintained, and it
