Trifling Complaints
Thine who are nos in the habit of visiting the
Mayor's office can have no idea of the number
of trifling complaints brought before the Mayor,
The great majority of these do not tall within
Ms Okla' cognizance, and have to be dismissed
without consideration, but they consume a great
' deal of thno, and often interfere materially with,.
the tegilluttate duties of the omen. To-day a
well dressed lady, residing on St. Clair street,
banded to his Etanor - a written.complaint, the
substasneept which - din that certain parties oc •
currying a portion of the same house annoyed
her by "hanging clothing atnuthar doorfroster.t.

A Female "Burglar,"
About twelve o'clock last night, the residana
of a house on Morgan street, In the Pornl.ll ward,
Allegheny, were somewhat startled on finding
that theirdwelling had , been entered, throngh a
window, by some unknown Individual, who was
blundering about the room. Officer Barber wan
called, and the “burglar" seemed. It proved to
be a notorious old case named lisle Flllands,
who hod :been out on a debauch. and getting
quite muddled, was finding apiece to Mkt her
weary bones. Kate was furnished with lodging
in the tonibs, and slept soundly en the "'soft side

Shootteg In the Market Hoese....A Narrow
Escape.
TAD boys undertook to amuse themselves in
the Diamond market, by shooting at rata. After
they had frightened the rats away they placed
a target an one of the doors, and. banged away
at it. The ahot many penetrated the thin panel,
and pasaleg over the street entered the door of
Hart's tavern. Mr. Hart had been sitting en
a chair, at the door, half a minute before, and
had Just got up to attend to a customer. Some
of the shot struck the chair on which ho had
been ailing. One of the boya, H. Wells. was
arrested on a charge of mallcions mischlef,'-and
held to ball In the sum of three hundred dollars.
The:other has not yet been arrested.
An Example Worthy of Imitation.—A
young man residing in fitembenville, Whom
father was addicted to drink, followed but Into
ri tavern the other day and Inforthed the pro
prietor (one Jackson) that if her sold his father
another drink ho would -prosecute Mini.. On
passing out he saw Jackson give his father a
glees of ale, when he made iinformailmi before
the. Mayer, which resulted in Jackson being
fined ten dollars and costs. If parties int*
have friends given to drunkenness wonid pursue
the tavern keepers to ptinishment, there would
be leas misery and distress in the land.
Condition of John Sullivan.--John Sulli
van, who was inured on Wednesday, , by being
struck on ,the head with a club bYThomas Gil
lespie, is still lying quite at his residence on
Mgh street. He la unable to eat or drink to
day, and although the skull la not fractured
there Is danger of congestion of the brain. The
club used by Gillespie lea murderous weapon,
and the wonder Is that the man was not killed.
The accused will have a bearing before fader
man flint° this afternoon.
