Arrest of the Principal Rioters.
On Friday night a ball was given at the tavern
of Mrs. Moul, on Chestnut Street, In the Fourth
Ward, Allegheny. As Is usual on each occa
sions, considerable whisky was drunk, and a
number or the rougher men were ready fora row
at any momer t. Things went on quietly enough
until about midnight, when a fight occurred be
tween Augustus Miller and James Porter. The .
difficulty originated on the street, and while the
tight was in progress, officers Williams, ulster
and others,. of the night police, made their ap
pearance and ended the encounter by arresting
Miller. While Miller was in the custody of
Williams, a comrade named Johe Sill late:fered
to rescue him, swearing that he should not be
taken to the lockup. Officer Bolster then
seized Sill, and both were taken to the tombs.
Williams then returned to arrest Porter, and
found him in the ball room. Be took him Into

to rescue him. The patties who assailed the
officer cried out. "Ile shan't go down," . ..piton
