It seems that we were somewhat mistaken in
regard to the facts which lad to the discharge of
officer Hoffman of the " amergeocy " pollee.
The allegation was that he had been dismissed
by Mayor Lowry for "grossly !mating the

Another Sharp Swindling Hodge.
OnSaturday morning, a "gentleman" 'teas
ing under the name of Thomas Williams, and

in that city, and selected a tine gold watch, val
ued at 1150, which be wished to have swat to the
hotel, to be inspected by his wife before Parches
leg It. A boy was sent up with the watch, and
on his arrival there Williams took charge oT It
and proceeded up stairs; followed by the boy.
On going to his mom, the door was found to be
locked, whereupon Williams relocated the boy
to remain there a moment-mutil he would go
down stairs and get the key. The boy walled
and waited but W il liams did not return with

hotel, and got away with his booty.

States Circuit Court for the Western District of
Pennsylvania, against the Colombia Oil Com
pany. to recover possession of one-eighth of the
entire tract of land claimed by the company on

Wm. Story and wife, and that the deeds for the
same, dated April 11, MD, are recorded In the
