' This noble State seems to be firmly re-es
tablished in Its place In the Union, and is
beginning to enjoy a degree of peace and
prosperity to which it has long been a
stranger, and - a state of prosperity beyond
anything known in its history is downing
upon it. Slavery is totally abolished, and
with slavery has gone disloyalty and rebel
lion.' Parson BnowLeow bids fair to be a
wise, just and acceptablegovernor; and the
tone of popular sentiment toward him may
be inferred from the following remarks• of
the Nashville Press; a paper which opposed
his election and opposed the abolition
a far
slavery, so long as there was any hope of
preserving it :
"The message of Governor Brownlow to
the General Assembly, will be found on the
first page of the Press tin morning. It ap

history of Tennessee,. the. message should,

Under the herd of this most intelligent
arid populous. Slate of the Southwest, we
may. Lopata see all the others wheeling into
line and taking their places loyally, joyfully
and free iuthe old Union, under the old flag.
:Tennessee acquires no extraneous force to

&remarkable illustration of the "inco

Meantime contracts are uric:vented, works

Now that we have demonstrated the getter-.
