a revolver, and shot the Doctor three times,
and thenleft. Daily followed him to the
door, and fired.four shots at his assailant,

smoky city, which have had their origin from
the Sixth Degiment Pennsylvania Ileavy. "Mtn

home some general informatics in regard to the
doings and whereabouts of this Pittsburgh regi
ment, I will note try to write you a Seer lines
in relation to the Sixth, which we, as Pittslattrgh
ers, are proud ot, and hope, if we persevere in
in our present efficiency in drill and military ex
perience, to win, ; if the. opportunity is 'afforded
us, laurels for our native city,Which our friends
may well feel proud of.
The regiment proper - 1s now stationed at Fort
Ethan Allen; Virginia, where they are doin7 the
Government some verylrapertant service in the
way of repairing the fortifications and Govern
ment-buildings of that military poet, and there
could not have been a better regiment selected
for that pitrpose; as the majority of its officers
and : men' are drat class. mechanics of every
branch; but tho carpenters, I tun informed, ap
pear to hare the majority.
The ref, must is now commanded by our. esti
raable Leutenint - Colonel J. B. Copeland, of
whom I may safely shy, be commands the re
spect of every officer and private of the Sixth,
whiteout. fellow-townsman, Lieutenant Samuel
-A. Dam, Acting Adjutant, does the official bu
siness, these parade and guard mount up in style
that would astonish the Rego.

There has been a great many promotions in
the regiment lately, caused by the addition of
two Brevet Lieutenants to each company, all of

which were selected from the Sergeants of their
respective cOmpaulmi, who have thus far proven
that there Is good material in the ranks as there
Is out of them,
and his whispered around among
the boys, that the Colonel says that If some of
the officers dollot Improve more rapidly, he will
have to promote more Sergeants, as ho Is deter
mined to have none but good officers.
