Allegheny, visited the dental establishment
of Mr. J. Westbay, No. 258 Penn etreet, for
the purpose of haring an operation perform
ed on her teeth. She regnested Mr. Westbay
to admielater chloroform 'to her, in order to
deaden the pain ; he at first refuted, but
ly consented to do so. The chloroform was
poured into a sponge and placed to her face,
and after she had inhaled it for about two
minutes, Mr. Westbay laid down. the sponge
and was preparing to proceed with the opera
tion, when he noticed that Mn'. Martin's face
had armed an mute] appearance, . and
upon a further investigation Crammed that
dawns to all appearances dead. lie ham e
dlately summoned Drs. John Dickson .and
Wm. Hamilton, who after endeavoring fa an
hour to emanate her, at length armed the
