found the name of Sergeant D. IL Boyden,
of this village , a member of 'he 7th abode
bland Regiment, who was womided in one
of the hue battles In Virginia. On the day
that be was wounded, his mother, in coming
from the cellar of .her residence, says she
distincily heard the voide of Decatur cry
out, J.oh, mother." The voice was so natu
ral that she expected to see her son when
she came up stairs. As no one was there, I
she was - convinced from that moment that
her eon was either killed or wounded. Two

The Generals In Brier
Major Gcn: Winfield Scott Hepatica,

'on the 14th of February. lent. He grodna
ted at West Point in 1834 and entered the
6th infantry. Be serval In the Indian
Territory, in the Mexican war, whore he
fon brevets, in the Florida war agninet
tkie Seminoles, and in Barney's expedition
across the continent vie Fort Bridger to
Benicia, California. When• the war broke
out his position was as itnow is, that of an
Assistant Gnat tormenter with the rank of
.Haptain. In Stptembor, 1881, he was made
a Brigadier, and assigned to a command in
the army of the Potomac. ;Ire served un
der Franklin on the Citiokahominy. At
Williamsburg ho distinguished himself in
a bayonet oharge, which :McClellan, in his
offutiel report, pronounced "brilliant in
the extreme." At Sugar Leer Mountain,
Antietam, and in all the battles of the army
of the Potomac since , Haneosk hue made
his mark. Ha Maier General's commis
sion bears date November 29,1862.
The rebel M.J. Gen. Edward Johnson,
captured by Hancock, Is s Kentnokian, and
graduated at West Point in 1838, or mix
years before his captor. When the war
broke out Johnson was a oaptain in the 6th
Infantry, but resigned in June, 1861, and
Joined the lobate, who made him • Brigs
deer at onor, and subsequently • Maj.ir
General. He is credited with distinguish
ed eervice sad several brevets in the Mes
-10012 war.
The 0. aural Stuart taken should not be
confounded with J. E. 8., or " Jeb," the
rebel cavalry man He ie George H. Stu
art, • Marylander, a graduate of West
Point, in 1848, and captain in the let cav
alry when the war broke outs He resign
ed and entered the rebel eervice.
Brig. Gen. Robert Johnson, also captur
ed, is .ft Virginian, -a graduate of West
Point in 1850, and was a first lieutenant
in the let dragoons when the war broke
out. He also resigned and joined the ene
my.
The three great captains in the rebel
array pitted against Hancock, Warren, and
Bedgwick, (now Wright,) are Longtime;
A. P. (a different man than D. H) Hill,
and E. 8 EtrelL They are old etagere,
and it is unnecessary to recount their deeds
in the present War.
Longetreet is a South Carolinian:a grad
uate of West Point in 1842, and classmate
of Rosecrane, Pope, Newton, &n., served
with distinction it the Mexican war, in
the infantry, and when this war broke out
was a Major In the. Pay Department. Re
signed in June, 1861, to join the rebels.
Hill is • Virginian, and graduated at
West Point in 1847. He entered the artil
lery, but whe employed mostly as an as
ailment on the coast survey. When the war
broke out be was a first lieutenant in the
Ist artillery, resigning in March, 1861, to
join the enemy.
Ewell is a District of Columbia man, and
a graduate of Went Point in 1840. He en
tered the dragoons and was distinguished
in the Mexican war end sundry Indian
fighte. The rebellion found him • Captain
is the letdregoona. He resigned May 7th,
1861, and passed over to the enemy.
