Major General Panty H. Bureaus is a
gratim4;4 2 West Point, and a citizen of
Perry::edunty, • Ohio. lie distinguished
hinieelf as a cavalry leader at Stone River,
Tullahoma, Chickamauga and Mission
Ridge. "Phil" is the son of an Irishman,
and was born on an American ship, and
under the American flag, while his parents
were emigrating from Ireland to this coun
try. He is about thirty-two yeariold and
unmarried:

evening says that reinforcements of veter
ans probably reached GaAs: that day, and

date, says that It hears on excellent an

available soldier within reach was on Fri

this reserve force had been organized at

learn that Gen. Acona is to command
these reinforcements, Their place at Wash
ington will be supplied mainly by the Ohio

The Secretary of War says that Slum,
was last heard from at Woodstock, and a
correspondent of the Wheeling Intelligenrer,
who is with Gen. Start, informs that paper
that, on Tuesday las', the command was at
Strasburg. Woodstock is a few miles south
of Strasburg, down the Shenandoah valley.
Of course, this intelligence dissipates the
rumor that Sum had out the railroad at
Lynchburg or anywhere else, as Strasburg
and Woodstock are from 100 to 125 miles
distant from any point on -the Lynehlmrg
Railroad. Woodslook is about seventy4ve
miles distant from Spottsylvatia. By hard
marching Swan could be with Guaw to
day if hie piesence were needed, or if be
had been ordered - io join him.

enlighten it. The Administration has given
the people, from the beginning of the pres
ent campaign, prompt 11114 reliable intelli
gence eln/y of the progress made by Gene.

oapy of the Put from which we clip the
above sentences contains one of Secretary
STANTON . / dispatches. Can it be possible
that the editor of the Post "does not read
his own dispatches ;" or, is he so steeped in
Copperheadism that it was impossible for
him to chronicle editorially, even in a half
hearted way and at a late day, the success
of our armies, without revenging himself in
the usual Copperhead way by defaming the
Government which is attaining every nerve
to subdue the Rebellion, The editor can
answer at his leisure, and is at liberty to
write an editorial a column long if he
chooses.
Tan Cincinnati Too says that General
Caooa■, who commands the Kanawha Val
ley expedition, is marching across the two
ridges of the Alreghanies somewhere mar-,
the line of the Virginia and Tennessee
railway, which will bring him in junction
with BOTLZII'M army in its present poaltion.
Gen. CROOKS is an Ohioan, and has served
with ability since the war began.

phis, who was killed in one of - the laic
battle, was well known awl highly es-
teemed ' . He commanded the 24th Pennsyl
yenta regiment in the three months cam
paign, and earned a reputation for disci
pline and skillful management in that
position. Upon the return of the three
' mouths' met he zrorgabised his regintent
as the 69th, and it was attached to ,the
brigade commanded by the late lamented
General Baker. When that gallant ruddier
fell at Ball's Bluff, Colonel Owen swireeded
him in command.ef the brigade, and has
remained in service as a brigadier ever
since, having been formally appointed
such by the President in November, 1862,
although the Senate has only confirmed
him within a few weeks past.

by Meade to suceeei Gen. Sedgwick in cow
mend of the famous Sixth corps, Is a Con
necticut man,as his predecessor wee. .Ile
was appointed to the Military Academy al
West Point In 1837, and in 1841 rewired

oilmen. The next year he became acting
sesistant professor of engineering; in An.
gust, 1861, be became MOOT of engineers,
end the next month he was made brigadier
