The no:secret of that city, lays r Should the navimktion of the Ohio river be improved, making of itself • grand 'ship canal of many 1000 miles to Pittsburgh, capitalists would not be- long in discovering that the very place for a chit, canal from the West to the East is through Pennsylvania. A vast Proportion of the products of the Western States, which now goes to the Lakes to find its way to tide-water through the New York canal, would drift towards the Ohio, (thue more than quadrupling the commerceof the river,) and find its way through Paitnerl. Yazd* to Philadelphia. It Is estimated that ten millions will tro required to improve the navigation of the Ohio river by looks and dame, and that the tolls emissary to pay a dividend on the investment will not exceed on ordinary moroliantse one mill per ton er mile, while the rates en coal boats, rafts, &a., will be merely nominal. The toll would thus be only one cent and a half on a barrel of flour, from Lonisvillo to Cincinnati, and two and a half cents on a keg of nails from Pitts— burgh to Louisville. The boats would make more money than they now do, as they mold run all the year, and always carry full trade Alleged "Bounty Jumper" Killed A young man named Marcus Howard, of Marshall county, W.
