What chance was there to gain that for which
thousands of Poles laid clown their ,ilea?
They themselves seem to have given up, after
a long contest, all hope of independence as a

ItecagArton.—lllehmond papers announce
that the steamer Adranca, which recently ran
the blockade, brought eight thousand packs
of cards. Foreseeing the fate of the Confed
eracy, Jeff. has doubtless ordered this large
Invoice to while away the prison hours of him
'elf and his co-laborers In crime.
