The N. T. Chret 4- dirtia; at Irednutlay

The gaiilenreent bee decided not only to
detain .Arsterlean vessels, but also those or
all nationalities not having patties properly
mislaid, by. 11. S. Marshal Murray. The
accord steamers and all boats playing east
of New Nevem will now be required to have
passeo. Secretary Seward has been in
town for several days past, and has had fre
quent Interviews with Marshal Murray, in
order to so systematise the whole business
of posses as to make as little delay as pos
sible in the departure of vessels.
The British Consul made inquiry at the
offtee'of the United States - Marshal yester
, day as to whether British vessels would be
required to have passes in common with
others, and whether passengers would be
required to obtain passports,' and also
whether foreign consuls 'would' have the
power of granting the same. The consul
was.informed that the regulation would ex
tend to British vessel Out well as to Te 3863
Of other nationalities k but that individual
passengers would not be required to obtain
passports, and consequently that foreign'
consuls would have no occasion to grant
passes to them.
The other officials or thy port will co
operatu with Manilla] Murray. Surveyor
Andrewsdetalled some sixteen of his men,
'under Deputy Surveyor Brown, to report
at the Marshal's office for instructions. An
arrangement was effected yesterday through
which the customs officials will work ,with
the Marshes' deputies, and thus secure the
fulfilment of the ends intended to be Ile
complished by the Government.
The British barque Cireassisr.,lying at
pier No. 18 East river, was seined by Mar
shal -Murray yesterdar, but the particulars
of the, ramie it would not be prudent at
present .to make public. Several parties

males, and, as an evidence of the way in
which the contraband traffic in firearms is

Dr. Holmes, in the January number of
the .4timitie Monday, speaking of Ezoar

Workmen have beau engaged fur some time
past,.nniier the, direction of Col. McCallum,
Superintendent of Military Railroads, to col
leeting all the old Iron scattered along tke
Orange lend Alexander Railroad, from Alex
andria to the Rappahannook river. The lot
comprises remnants from the wrecks of loon
motlem, railread cars, bent and twisted rails,
and iron from the bridges destroyed and track
torn up in the reaioas robed raid, which have
taken place on the lino of Misread within the
past two yam. These fragments, of all sorm,
sires and descriptions, spread along the road
for miles, are being gathered up and taken to
Alexandria, where they will _be sold dating
the coming month. The lot will ailment to
upwards of two thou Sand tons, and comprises
some nine or ten; damaged locomotives.
